out of curiosity,i would be interested to hear from any reps, their position on the following,
if i have to go over my time, say by 30mins on a monday, can i claim for this or do i have to wait till saturday, when the manager is happy i've worked above and beyond my total hours.
essentially,i see this as unofficial banking of hours, yet the management insist they are simply ensuring you work all your paid hours?
your thoughts/understanding of this process would be much appreciated.

Re: Overtime
Heard it is done in some offices 'down south' by Local Agreement. In theory they could use their 1/2 hour flexibility sh**e. Think banking of hours was due to be discussed as Phase 4 of P&M but presumably the ongoing talks will either deal with this or not as the case may be. Just don't hold your breath.

Re: Overtime
with the exception of prep OT any hours I book are done on a Sat balanced across the week, what is the prob with that any other job you are expected to work the hours you are paid, why should we be any different and book ot on Mon to then go under the next day and it not clawed back. This is not un-reasonable or bullying etc... but common sense.robd wrote:out of curiosity,i would be interested to hear from any reps, their position on the following,

However it can be avoided by doing the job prop. And like today when it was extremely quiet I did extra D2D to fill my time nearer to my finishing time.
IF it ain't broke it soon will be if RM have their way

Re: Overtime
The answer is simple - CUT OFF
Don't go over your time and you won't have any worries about you not working your hours
Do this for a number of weeks and see his attatude change.

Re: Overtime
You are paid to deliver the mail during a set amount of hours. It is not your responsibility to find that work and if it is not found for you then why should you work beyond your contracted hours because they couldnt find the work for you on a tuesday. If I am late on a monday then I book OT. If I am early on a tuesday then I go back to the office and if there is a manager thereBlueEspresso wrote:with the exception of prep OT any hours I book are done on a Sat balanced across the week, what is the prob with that any other job you are expected to work the hours you are paid, why should we be any different and book ot on Mon to then go under the next day and it not clawed back. It is for managers to staff the office you can only work your hours if you go over it is their responsibility to pay for your hours worked what if you were sick injured or crippled on a given day how would they expect you to work to pay it back!. NEXT THEY WILL BE TELLING US TO PAY FOR THEIR MORTGAGES AND FANCY CARS!.

Re: Overtime
We work long and short days at my DO. If you don't want to go over your time on a Monday you cut off, with the proviso that you give DIM DOM some warning of the fact prior to leaving the DO that you will not be working beyond your time.
If you feel you will be going over your time, again prior warning to DIM DOM that you might go over usually brings the OK to work 'x' amount of overtime. We do not bank hours or balance our time over the week from Monday-Saturday.
If we work over we get paid O/T for that day, if not we cut off .. simple as that.

This is a nonsense argument.
Very few people WORK the hours they are paid.
Almost every job involves down time when you are not working at 100% capacity.
The only difference with this job is it still technically works under job&finish and in every single job that involves "job&finish" people occasionally finish before the end of their contracted hours.
In businesses where banked hours exist it is invariably by agreement.
There is NO agreement YET in Royal Mail for banked hours which is EXACTLY what robd's manager is trying to implement.

Re: Overtime
what normally happens in our office when you tell a manager you don't think you'll be able to complete is they look at you blankly and say "why is that then"...then after much too-ing ang fro-ing they walk off to go and consult another more bullying manager, then you usually have to go to seek them out as they don't come back...then you get 2 managers trying to bully you into completing.coxie wrote:im with cut off king on this 1, cut off and then you watch how they backtrack when you say you cut off because your not allowed to claim for OT I bet you the next day they kiss your ass and tell you that you can book it if you need to go over
