sick leave

Post by Debbie »

Can someone help me please?
I have been suffering for years now with a work related injury that i am paying regular visits to the hospital with and proberbly will have to have a operation. atos did a written report to royal mail last year advising managers on what they should do to help me stay at work and also to keep them updated.
as we have had many changes in management in the past year, i have made sure they all have been told about my injury and my limitations of what i can and cannot do. not once has anyone ever asked if im ok, or let them know if im struggleing . some didnt even know i had a problem or been to atos.
the last straw came last week in the snow. i could not push the trolley was in immense amount of pain and decided enough was enough and took last week off sick ( im never off sick) im in the middle of changing doctors and have got to wait till my name gets in the system before i can get a appointment and my question is.
because its my second week off even though the doctors say they can backdate the sick note, will royal mail stop my pay? my manager says they might . atos are ringing tomorrow so not sure what they will say but i dont want to be forced to go back till a doctor has seen me as any more damage to my injury could end up me being off a lot longer and more damage done.
i would of thought that as long as i returned to work with a sick note to cover the days i was off then i would be ok but im worried sick on what i should do.

When you get to see your new doctor and when ATOS contact you make sure you mention DDA, might also be worth mentioning it to the DOM as well. From what you have posted you would qualify for consideration under it:

The definition

For the purposes of the Act:

* substantial means neither minor nor trivial
* long term means that the effect of the impairment has lasted or is likely to last for at least 12 months (there are special rules covering recurring or fluctuating conditions)
* normal day-to-day activities include everyday things like eating, washing, walking and going shopping
* a normal day-to-day activity must affect one of the 'capacities' listed in the Act which include mobility, manual dexterity, speech, hearing, seeing and memory

If you are in employment and become disabled http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/DisabledPeo ... DG_4000382" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
