Advice needed please on EHS while on sick leave.

Hi, great forum lads, keep up the good work. I'll try to keep this as brief as possible.

Had an operation, Doctor signed me off for 4 weeks. went back to Dr as i was still having symptoms, so doctor put me off for another 2 weeks, when i sent this sick note in my line manager phoned the house and spoke to my girlfriend as i was in the shower. He said he wanted my permission to arrange an appointment with the EHS, despite me still having 2 weeks to go on my sick note. He said they would arrange for me to do light duties. I havent rung him yet as I don't feel ready to go back due to continued post op pain. Also line manager hasn't rung again. Should I ring to make an appointment with the EHS or not. I feel I'm being pressured back to work before I'm ready as I'll probably need to see my own doctor again soon. Any thoughts? advice would be welcome. Thanks.

Because if you go back early and this affects you and you need to go off sick again the manager that was so eager to get you to see the EHS will be the same manager eager to put you on a stage for your sick record

That's exactly what I'm concerned about. I know someone who had the same op as me, went back too early and had to go sick again, as soon as he got back the second time he was on a stage warning.

So does anyone know if it will go against me if I don't agree to go to the EHS before I feel fit enough? I prefer to be guided by my own doctor rather than the Royalmail one.

ive always foung the EHS ok, i was off sick before and when I came back I spoke to them and said I felt i needed a month on light duties and they just said sure no problem. They are nothing like line managers they can be very helpfull and wont pressure you into going back to work untill your ready and will try to set you up a rehab programe you are happy with.

No problems with EHS although you may find management VERY selective in reading the report (if they even bother ) years ago they wanted my walk testing because of persistant shoulder problems , to this day never happened.

If YOU decide to go back on light duties print a letter stating that any subsequent absence due to current injury will be counted as one absence and get it signed by dom
