Re: why can r/mail leave people suspended
There are supposed to be time limits when investigating cases, but management allways has an excuse if they want to bend these.
I guess it all helps if you have to go to a tribunal, the length of time you were suspended and the unneccessary suffering caused.
What can the union do though I mean what options are there for them? If management keep you suspended for a long time what avenues can the union explore, maybe they can write a letter, complain that is costing the business a load of money paying you to sit at home. I don't know what I would do if I were a rep and had someone suspended for ages, who would I talk to about it?
Thanks.

The longer you're suspended, the longer you have to mull over resigning or topping yourself, either of which options would of course suit Royal Mail.

Why would you want to do either. Just look on it as a long paid holiday.Lounge Lizard wrote:The longer you're suspended, the longer you have to mull over resigning or topping yourself, either of which options would of course suit Royal Mail.

Some people worry themselves to death about things.shadow wrote:Why would you want to do either. Just look on it as a long paid holiday.
Imagine if you had a mortgage and children and you had no idea what was going on in the case.
And once RM suspend you they will try their damnest to make the charge stick otherwise they will be made to look fools themselves.
Apparently their is a bit of pressure on the investigating officer, if he/she charges you and the charges are later kicked out they can be disciplined themselves or so I have heard so it is in their interest to find you guilty. Your only defence is a good union rep, if he/she hears anything on the floor that can help your case the rep should bring it to the management. If the management hear anything that helps your case chances are they will not include it as evidence.
We are lucky in a way as RM has such detailed and precise conduct code guidelines, plenty of room for a manager to slip up.

There is also the point of overtime, if the person has more or less relied on overtime within their budget, then it becomes doubly hard.
I don't know the answer but is there anything to say you cannot work on other jobs whilst suspended?

You'll probably find it's instant dismissal, RM are still paying you. Maybe if your other job was outside your contracted RM hours.dvbuk55 wrote:I don't know the answer but is there anything to say you cannot work on other jobs whilst suspended?
Although I have never heard of a case where someone has been sacked for this but I guess the union would know.

A camouflaged answer will suffice.
