one girl within our office has just been removed from her duty.
She signed for this duty as it suited her family life balance (went from Ft down to Pt)
Duty was great for her, she never had any complaints with it over the last few years
Recently the duty was increased back up to Ft, resulting in her been moved
She put in a grievance as she had moved onto this duty for family reasons, and these working hours suited perfectly (no other duties with these hours within the office)
her answer came back that her contract hours were 30 and these are determined by operational needs. A duty could not be built to suit her sitsuation.Unfortunate that her duty got changed.
She would like to know is this not a contradiction about work life balance as it was the reason she took the duty in the first place.
Can they move her like this and basically tell her tuff luck your hours are determined by operational needs?
They cannot build a duty to suit her sitsuation even though she was on one.
Any help or information for her would be great as we have no rep and never seem to be able to get through to area rep.
THANKS

Re: work life balance
Others with more definite knowledge of the legislation may correct me, but I think the law only requires employers to give consideration to offering 'Family Friendly' hours, if operationally possible.
Employers do not have any obligation at all to give everyone the precise hours of attendance that suits the employee best.
A caring, enlightened, forward-thinking, 21st-Century organisation would, however, do it's utmost to offer attractive attendance patterns in order to recruit and retain the right kind of employees.
We, however, work for :cfo and, ultimately, :mfo

Re: work life balance
There is no work life balance in RM, RM just want it all their way, this is why so many people are leaving. It ain't worth it anymore. **** pension, bullying and harassment and plenty of other things are happening. And what is our union doing. ?????

Re: work life balance
If your friend signed for a part time duty this means she should have been given a new contract for the changed hours?
