Guys i need some advice regards triggering a Stage 1. In the past 12 months i have 2 absences. 21st November 2008 -27th November 2008 7 day self cert, and 7th July 2009 - 10th July 2009 4 day self cert. Now i reported sick for duty 25th November 2009. I have informed them today that i am fit to resume duties from tommorrow. Making this a 3 day absense. Now here is the sticky point. The three absenses total 14 days. However do the days from my November 2008 absense get knocked off one by one as i have passed the 21st November 2009 12 month period.
Will i trigger a stage 1, or am i safe as i didnt go sick until the 25th November 2009 . Will the 4 days from my Absense back on 21st November 2008 be disgarded by the Computer that spits out the stage triggers.
Technically i have only had 9 days sick in the past 12months. If they count from the beginning of my sick in November 2008 thats 14days but over 12months. Need a union rep that is up to speed with my issue.

Me thinks someone has tried to play the attendance system, going 'sick' a year and 4 days after an absence he thought would not count towards the 14-day trigger.

I am not a rep but AFAIUI the year starts counting from the end of the sick period not the start and its included in the count, so basically your stuffed you have had 14 days sick absence in 12 months

TrueBlueTerrier . I understand the count starts from the last day of my absense 12 months ago which is 27th November 2008. The procedure is 4 absences or 14 days within a 12month period triggers a stage 1. I have had 14 days in 12months and 1 day. Ive only actually had 13 days within a 12month period 27th November 2008 to 26th November 2009. My last sick day today makes in 1 year and 1 day.

You'll be okay. Yes, the days will get knocked off one by one, it's a rolling 12 month period.
They'll review the period 28/11/08 - 27/11/09 which is the full 12 months from last day of absence, so you've only had 2 absences for 7 days. Even reviewing the 12 months including the beginning of the latest absence, you'll be looking at 26/11/08 - 25/11/09 which would give you 3 absences for 7 days, so either way you'll be fine.
