Report from National Briefing London 13th November 2009

Dave Ward - Deputy General Secretary.
Thanked activists and members for their support over the last 20 weeks and more of Industrial Action. We had experienced some outrageous behaviour from Royal Mail senior managers over that period with members being taken off pay and bullied.

The “leaked document” which had been verified as a genuine RM position paper had illustrated how the company had wanted to remove the influence of the CWU from the workplace and the completely negative influence of Lord Mandelson had done nothing to resolve this bitter dispute..

The CWU recognised that massive change was coming to RM and the Interim Agreement allowed the Union to influence company direction on behalf of members although evidence suggested that lower level managers were yet to acknowledge the impact of the Interim Agreement which was causing some problems in some areas.

The CWU were to meet again on Monday 16th November with Mark Higson and Brendan Barber to emphasise that if the CWU was not confident of progress being made as per the terms of the Agreement then further Industrial action will take place. Dave Ward confirmed that the national and local ballots were still active. It was evident that RM were trying to isolate the London Division for special treatment and the national Union would not allow for any areas to be isolated.

Divisional Reps from each Area reported on local talks which had been held to discuss the Interim Agreement. In the main RM had failed to show any willingness to address issues of concern to members.

Dave Ward responded to questions from the floor in that no area would be left isolated. The CWU had arranged for a meeting with RM and the Equality Commission to discuss workplace bullying. The Postal Executive would consider a report from officers on Wednesday 18th November where the option of re activating ballots would be discussed.

The National officers reported on negotiations with senior RM managers.

I would think it would be prudent to strike again, RM have consistently failed to adhere to any agreement and this one is no different, the PEC should know what the grassroots are feeling and the RM "secret document" should be released to the Public, it is quite clear to me even to a blind man that RM is playing for time and come Boxing day RM will surely stick two fingers up and say "you fell for that didn't you" before walking away form any agreement.

I think they have had enough time between the interim agreement and now to come up with something concrete and they haven't done so, we have less than 6 weeks away to Christmas.

same old story at streatham sdo more casuals than postpersons,backlog growing day by day,opening hours 24/7, bullying still going on,ban on overtime inposed senior management only casuals can do overtime,half the office doing peggy walks the other half doing the old walks, spilt office,allocated dutys, no seniority no end in site,taking work out, bringing it back, for the casuals to deliver ,late afternoon or next day, no end in site all well bang go`es our christmas bonus, something to look forward to the other half of peggy installed come jan 2010 more dutys gone, more bullying more stress,merry christmas to all.
