Seniority... How does it work?????

Hi
I am hoping someone could tell me how senoirity works. I have just transfered to a new office, and had to go from a 40 hour contract to a 20 hour crontact in the process. They are having a re-pick in my new office, and even though I have 5 years service there are people on 30 hour contracts who have only worked for the company 6 months that are more senior than me.
Is this right??? As in my old office, seniority went on time served, regardless of how many hours a week you were contracted.

Any advice would be appreciated................

seniority is years with RM not hours per week

depends on whether the duties are split into full and part time, if so you would take your place according to your seniority in the part time pick, if all in then you would take your place in the overall office seniority, either way nobody with less service should get a pick before you

The number of hours on a contract should have no bearing on seniority because all delivery duties should be equal any internal work would then be picked up by the less senior with more hours - at least that is the theory

This has become a major issue in my office.
In january they intend to roll out van sharing throughout the entire office.
For van sharing to work properly it requires 2 drivers.
The rest of the shifts are part-time.Full timers do not get to pick part-time walks.
What do you do if you are a full-time non driver.
Does'nt matter how many years you have in you are a reserve.

to get back to the original point, your seniority should transfer with you.and the number of hours you work shouldnt matter either as our circumstances change.seniority should be the simplest measure to use, but you always have some "chancers" who try to bypass it.

seniority is one of the best protections a postie can have,it cuts out favouritism, ageism, sexism, racism and any other ism you can think of.

I don't want to be offensive - but, it is my experience that female members of staff are treated shall we say more fairly than male members. Consequently it is more likely that a manager would favour a female postie over a male if they were given the option.

It's always the ones who have no service in that feel they are superior and god forbid YOU should ever get a double hernia and a bad back and put your trust in the fairness of a manager.
