Weren't we taking Royal Mail to court today for employing agency staff to break the strike?

Have we rolled over on that one too? Surely if Royal Mail's actions are illegal and immoral they should still be challenged in the High Court. Turning a blind eye is not the answer.

I smelt a rat when initially reports said the action would be brought on Monday, then it went back to Tuesday and finally it was Friday by which time, of course, we had capitulated.

Please tell me I'm wrong.

Nah was part of the aggreement, CWU said it would call off the High Court Case.

Why on earth did they stop the court case? Surely the result of that would have been significant in any future strikes.
If the CWU had no chance of winning the case you would have thought RM would be more than happy to let them go ahead with it and give them another bloody nose.

my guess is the court case explains the last minute agreement, when whatever numpty at CWU HQ thought it was a good idea to risk the union's entire finances on the spin of a court case realised what he had got into?

and the message you'd send to other employers and unions if the case was lost . RM can afford to p*** about and play games - the CWU can't and /or it would be deemed to be irresponsible .

having seen the bunch of lawyers and barristers they employ operate, the CWU would never have won anyhow....

I agree - Belial is very touchy and defensive - so theres a real issue here. ..yesterday Unite was told if they got a injunction against BA and lost the case later the union could pay over £50m in damages to BA. Does the CWU have £50m? Or did someone at the CWU need to get out of the hole someone dug??? before is was too late??
