Unagreed Automation Training for Casuals

Dear Colleague

Unagreed Automation Training for Casuals

It has been reported to me from Branches that the business have introduced an unagreed training package for casuals to perform automation duties which has never been discussed or agreed (copy attached). There is Agreement with the Union for an abridged training programme for casuals but this is restricted to basic OPG work and automation clearly does not fall into this category.

The fact that we have not even been advised of this proposal suggests that this is another move by the business to lessen the impact of the current strike action relating to the National Dispute regardless of the fact that this could lead to accidents/health and safety risks for the individuals concerned. This is of course totally contrary to the business’ commitment to make health and safety their number one priority for all employees.

Dave Joyce, National Health & Safety Officer has been made aware of the situation and in the absence of a National Agreement that addresses these concerns satisfactorily, Representatives should deal with any proposals they receive regarding automation training for casuals in line with the IR Framework.

All enquiries regarding the content of this LTB should be addressed to Martin Collins, Assistant Secretary Indoor Department, quoting reference number L25.09 or Dave Joyce, National Health & Safety Officer.

Yours sincerely

Martin Collins
Assistant Secretary
