So if the leaked document is right they may take away union Facilities and facility time, this could be very interesting for us in H&S as we come under HSE regulations.

You need to get hold of a book called Consulting Workers on Health and Safety it's an HSE publication isbn 978-0-7176-6311-8
It deals with Safety rep and safety committees regulations 1977 and Health and safety (consultation with employees) regulations 1996. As safety reps we are covered by a whole separate set of rules. Of course if they completely de- recognise the union this could change. I'm afraid it's a bit complicated for me to explain on here but i will search for some links.

I'm a sub area safety rep and at present get 2 hours a day release time and release for cover of the area rep, will wait and see

What rights do safety representatives have to time off?
If you are one of the following you're entitled to time off with pay to carry out your functions and to undergo training:

•safety representatives appointed under the Safety Representatives and Safety Committee Regulations 1977 by a trade union recognised by their employer
•representatives of employee safety elected under the Health and Safety (Consultation with Employees) Regulations 1996, to represent employees not covered by the 1977 Regulations; or

they wouldnt release me the other week for my first h+s course , even though i had all the documentation , paid leave forms etc.

did you actually read my post correctly? NO.
do you agree with sending unaccredited members on 3 CWU courses at £2K a pop a sensible way of spending your contributions? I HOPE NOT.

one thing is for sure, some of these so called "officials" of the CWU are going to find themselves back on delivery, processing and distribution in the very near future in my neck of the woods....

couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of people...all that sucking up to management is going to come back and bite them big time....perhaps some good will actually come from the inevitable defeat or lousy compromise that is going to happen....

time to start again........no employer is above the law...we just needs a union with reps that can actually challenge the situation, not wash their hands of members problems and enjoy an easy life on endless facility time and MICKEY MOUSE COURSES............

Sorry i didn't realise you were talking about unaccredited members, probably a bit of selective reading on my part just reading Mickey Mouse courses and after just spending 9 months on a one day a week diploma which by the way the branch
only paid my mileage RM paid me every other week and the others were on unpaid special leave it wound me up a bit.

I did TUC H&S at P'boro regional college back in 2002/2003 on day release. If I recall correctley management kicked up a fuss about the course being paid leave, however they agreed to continue with release.
