i have seen a few people complaining about them recently on here

Guys if you go to your union rep and request a form from him you can stop any money you pay into cwu subscriptions going to labour, if the union wont do it theirselves then feel free. People have recently done it at my office, it is your right so ask your union rep to sort you out a form so not 1 penny of your cash goes to labour.

The Political Fund levy is 10p a week from your subs. Not all of it goes to the Labour party.
2p is returned to your CWU Branch for their political fund. The political funds both locally
and nationally are used to fund 'political campaigns' such as the Keep the Post Public campaign,
and can be used to affiliate to and make donations to organisations and campaign groups.
I'm not sure how much actually goes to the Labour Party now, it used to be 2p, but for the
last year at least only the affiliation fees have been paid according to Billy Hayes.

from your CWU Branch Secretary, Organiser, or Political Officer, or you can download a copy:

I can understand people wanting to opt out but would point out that if there is a vote on
disaffiliation from the Labour Party, it is likely thay only the Political Fund payers will be
allowed to vote.

What is needed is restructuring of the PF so that we can fund our political campaigns etc without any of our money going to Labour.

Very true. NEC members (both on the RM and BT side) have prevented a membership ballot
being taken on reforming the political fund, and/or disaffiliating from the Labour Party.
This will only lead to more individual members opting out of the Political Fund levy.

If I recall the GS described altering the fund to match the set up unison have as super liberalsation

In plain english he attacked the idea of two separate funds one for general expenditure and one for Labour party affilation fees/donations.

Why though?

Are the pro link bods scared that they can not persuade the majority of PF payers to pay into both funds, if Labour are so good for us why are we not all queing up to join?

If individuals want to be LP members then good for them , its their life, their money and getting involved with a PP can be worthwhile.
