RM Performance Letters

Dear Colleagues

Urgent - please see attached letters being sent out by management. The advice from CWUHQ is that members MUST NOT sign as this would appear to mean a change to your contract of employment.

Please ensure that we (myself or your area rep) know immediately should such letters appear in your workplace.

CWUHQ need to know if and where such letters are being used.

As reported Yesterday please find attached letters from a DSM in London that members there are being asked to sign in relation to performance.

Legal guidance from CWU HQ has confirmed that if signed these letters would change the contract of employment of our membership.

If any areas catch sight of letters such as these please contact CWU HQ immediately.

Texts were sent to all London CWU members, who had registered with CWU HQ, last weekend
warning us not to sign any acknowlegement of these letters as they could mean legally accepting
a change in our contracts.

WOW! Explosive stuff...Although worded in RM "Speak" it wreaks of a not-so-veiled-threat.

On a selfish/personal note: I'm due back in after sickness, AOD, so won't, by any stretch of the imagination, be able to do Normal Working.
Calls to the office for an Atos Return to work re-hab programme have illicited no Atos contact...
This letter, to my mind, paints a Target on people such as myself, along with others who for no fault of their own, "may" be in the same boat.

There appears to be a hidden agenda, maybe not so hidden! Cutting staff, less wages, converging rounds, "less mail"...Where do I stop?

So...I hope that the union will support "dissenting/non-signers" as it seems that there will be some heavy pressure from RM Managers for us to sign
protecting their "important" roles/authority/pensions/future unemployment.

( Kinda reminds me of the Full Monty, where the Supervisor ends up in the same dole line as the guy's he used to terrorise. What goes around, comes around.)

That's as may be, but as our London brothers and sisters keep reminding us, the issues of which there are many and in which we have been balloted upon are not solely about London, although as we all know RM view this differently, so doesn't the rest of us at least warrant some form of notice from CWU HQ in the event some other erstwhile RM Director tries it on in some other area. If CWU HQ are issuing instructions through legal guidance they have received why oh why is the whole of the CWU membership not being kept up to date on such an important matter as a change in contract.

To also clarify a point where you have stated CWU members who had registered with CWU HQ. Are you meaning those CWU members who have complained to CWU HQ about being asked to sign acknowledgment of these letters.

No I was referring to members who have notified their mobile phone numbers to
receive updates/info by text message.
I haven't done so myself (should have done but I usually hear about things quicker
on rmc). I think it's done through the CWU Branch - there were notices up asking
members to notify their mobile nos to the Branch if thet wanted to receive info.
I was shown the text by a colleague and went to see one of our Senior Reps.
He said these letters were given to people in South West London at WTLLs.
They have not yet tried that at my MC.

ps I only said it was sent to London members because I know that to be the case.
It might well have been sent to members across the country who have registered
fot CWU texts.

pps I'm not sure that the text message was from HQ. It might have been from CWU London Division.
