Financial Support for all-out London Strikers

I've just had a great idea. It seems that the occasional 24hr strike of the workforce in London is having quite an effect in bringing RM to the 'negotiating table'? That makes perfect sence - London is the financial cente of Europe and UK politics and media industry are centred here so RM must be getting quite some flak about the loss of reliable service.

So the idea is this. We can win the fight JUST by going totally all-out in London! That can work because if we bring London to a halt almost everywhere else will be effected (becuase of mail handling for the Provences) and the crucial London institutions that make the UK tic will be scuppered and the London media will have a field day. But how do we enable an all out in London which may roll on and on with no wages for strikers???

We all stay at work nationally and give a proportion of our weekly wage to CWU to hand out to the London guys and girls! That way they could stay out for a LONG time whilst staying financially solvent. A total London stay away would win this for us in a few weeks? And if the deal which solves the crisis involves a bit of mediation by a cabinet minister Labour could get good PR from the ending of the strikes at a delicate time for them.

I don't want someone else fighting whilst I stand behind lose nothing but gain everything, it's not part of my nature to let other fight my battles.

But an all out all over the country might be a good idea

Damn right it would! the Managers would s**t themselves, if all of us went out at the same time, and stayed out. It'd also vastly reduce the amount of time that the Public would have to put up with the disruption. And give everyone the chance to recover financially, in time for Christmas.

Yes I agree with the point but the problem is we couldn't stay out nationally for as long as London could stay out by themselves if they had our financial support.

Occasional 24hr National strikes DO NOT cause the chaos that an all out London strike would cause because back-logs are constantly being cleared. It's a massive contradiction of action and intention and only happens to ensure staff are getting atleast SOME wages each week.

So the max effect is casued with an all out strike BUT we can't afford national all out - for 2 weeks or so. London COULD afford it with our aid. We would all be involved in the action by financial aid. 1 Days pay for the London guys and girls. We would all suffer but we would win this in 2 weeks. In political terms LONDON is the place to effect change. This is the clever way to win this fight?

The best way to support striking colleagues is for mail centres not to accept mail diversions, and its not just London taking action, V.O.C's all over the country are doing the same, the VOC at east midlands airport are having there 9th day of action today, and most of the 600 drivers drive through our picket line as if we were not there, only a handful have a conscience and don't go through

A hardship fund great but not created with the aim of enabling all-out strike in the London zone. BTW see my post about where these cheques are going.

we were told by the union to carry on as usual had notes given to us to carry in the cab.. im a reserve driver but i refused prdc and EMA jobs on principle to support u guys... also royal mail have stated if we drive up to EMA PRDC etc and refuse to cross the line we would loose our pay.. so alot guys are vary weary as there no guidelines fom the union!! in this case.. noting would please me more to park outside with you... :lfo

I propose that on the next London strike day, everybody from London simply turns up on mass at offices outside the London postcodes and says " we want to work but dont feel we can do so at our own place of work" Result being Lonon is "all out" BUT everyone gets paid, plus all you guys not on strike get an easy day as you all get a helper!

They'd just get a load of Agency, volunteers, and Managers, to go to the London Offices if you did that. And because there'd be no-one left to Picket. There'd be nothing to stop them doing so.

re the said hardship fund. When staff go on strike and lose pay, are union officials still paid by the union? Or did previous union laws under the tories put an end to this?

Local office reps are not paid ,as they are paid by Royal Mail.
Not to sure about area reps etc,maybe someone on the site can enlighten us.

Local reps , Area reps , Divisional reps, regional secretaries and PEC members all lose pay if their parent office go out on strike .

The National officers and PAs normally dontate their money to either chairiy or the hardship fund. I know that a number of PAs and National officers have already done so in this dispute.
