There seems to be some confusion on the board and some of you are worried,due to Management regarding 'Work To Rule'.

IT IS NOT WTR.

Although mentioned by a lot on here including me it is not WTR it is just easier to say that rather than.....

Its all about the 318, (working to the rules laid down by RM,The Union & Health & Safety)

You are within your rights,if you so wish to:(Which IS NOT Industrial Action.)
Start at your proper start time:You can not be forced to come in early.
Take your allocated meal breaks:You have the right to take all of your break before you go out on delivery.
Weigh your bags:This is a H&S issue and the bag weights should be on/near your signing on sheet.
Not use your car:You do not have to use your car EVEN if you have signed their declaration form.

You can not be forced to do overtime.
You can not be forced to finish your round if it takes you over your finishing time.
You do not have to 'finish the round and i'll pay you docket for it' if you don't want to.
If you want to claim the overtime for working over,see your Line manager or DOM before you go out.

Getting to your walk:

Depending on what's in your 318's depends on how you get out.
Most would have a van to take you out and bring you back.
Some offices i know have to get on a bus.
Some of you have to walk there.
Have a look at your 318's and enquire in this thread if needed.
PS:If there aint a van available,then just wait.
Unless your Manager has Business insurance on his car (Get proof) then he can't take you out in his car.

Unable to complete your round:

You are within your rights to stop delivering if you don't want to go over your finishing time.
Inform your Manager while prepping that you think there could be a problem,they may tell you to carry on or they may tell you to stream the work.
Inform your Manager before you tie up that you feel you will 'not be able to complete your round'.
You are not 'CUTTING OFF' 'you are unable to complete your round'.
Await instructions.
If you are told that 'in his/her opinion' that you can finish the round,then ask him/her what time should you ring in to inform them that you can't complete it,as you feel that could be the case.

Pouching off:
Give yourself time to pouch off.If you take your work to a pouch box or a Post Office,give yourself enough time to do that so that when you've finished,it is then your finishing time.
If you have to come back to your DO then obviously give yourself enough travelling time to get back and do your bits.
Again get instructions from your DOM or line Manager.

Always ring in,at least 30-60mins before your duty finishes if they get stroppy and don't give you a time to ring,or are adamant you will finish.
Do the above even if work has been taken off you,and you still can't finish on time.
If you do not ring in you will get done for willful delay.

ALL of the above are being done now by various offices up and down the country,including mine.
I'm still here,they're still here,you will be told told that working this way will get you down the conduct code as it's IA by Managers,but they will be lieing.

It's a hell of a lot a fun working this way,believe me.

In this form of industrial action employees perform their duties SRICTLY in accordance with any laid down guidelines.This will be evidenced by a possible drop in performance from rigidly following guidelines or instructions and is likely to have the same result or lead to a go slow.
Obviously, it may be difficult to declare a WTR as industrial action as, by its very definition, it means people are working as they are supposed to.

GOOD MAN POSTMAN. BRILLIANT POST. MY DOM PUT A RM ISSUE UP ON THE NOTICE BOARD TODAY SAYING THE SAME CRAP THAT WAS ON THE LETTER WE RECEIVED ON SATURDAY. I TOLD THE OFFICE TO IGNORE IT. IF MANAGERS THREATEN OR BULLY STAFF INTO WORKING OVER OR USING THEIR CARS, THERE WILL BE A LOT OF GRIEVENCES AND B&H CASES GOING ON BEFORE THE END OF THE DISPUTE

cruisey's right,

you are protected by law not to work more than your contracted hours. If your duty is overloaded as long as you follow your 318s and inform your manager of a poblem or even possible problem (he/she must lawfully direct you) then as long as you follow the above post by Postman you are in your legal rights and any screw directing you otherwise is breaking the law. Stick together, make sure there are witnesses when you are talking to managers if you have a problem. Work your reps hard. If they are uncertain, get 'em on this board, they may learn somethin' ----------------F****n KWAKKON

What do you mean if you don't want to! You never use a mobile,find a Phone box and reverse the charges.
If they TELL you to use your mobile tell them NO WAY,or if your'e not that way inclined,tell them you've no credit.
If the phone box is off your round,then so be it,if there's no phone box around,then tough on their part.

Cheers for your help - I NEVER ring them on my mobile - but I've got a feeling they might make my life a bit difficult next week cos I may not get to do all they ask of me next week cos I'm expected to move rounds over the summer to cover the "harder" walks, as I'm a spare part.................

Great post.I never ring them with my mobile or my home phone.If they pay for it then I will but not in my own time.I never ring to confirm Special Deliverys as they keep asking me and others in my area to do as there are no phone boxes.We ask them to ring us and if they forget or can't be arsed that's there tuff titty! At the end of the day it's MY mobile,MY home phone and MY time-not Royal mails!

Ours gives us 30p for each Prio we confirm as F/L - but it only costs me 10p and sometimes with the contract I'm on its free. But hey that's what they agreed.
