It seems to be a repetative bitch (justifyably no doubt) by some site users, that the union presence in non-existent in their unit or even area. Well I think I got a possible solution. Now bear with me while I go into a little detail. A few years ago the present government introduced a scheme to facilitate learning in the workplace and used the public service unions to roll out the programme. An ex-Burslem Rep (he's moved on to greater stuff) took up the learning mantle in the Midlands No7 Branch (Stoke area) and devised a Learning Roadshow which he took round to all the area units. Well to cut a long story short, the roadshow not only did it's job on the learning stuff, it re-energised the union presence in my office and the area as a whole. Just recently I suggested to a CWU suit who was in the area at the time, that maybe a CWU travelling roadshow (doubledecker bus type thingy) would be a great way of reaching out to isolated units. He seemed non commital about it. I know what it feels like to be isolated without a union prescence. Thanks to that young Ex-Burslem Rep our unit is much stronger union wise than it was before. So what do you think, would a travelling union roadshow be a positive or a negative? -----------KWAK
Positive and a greater need for communication from Branch is also needed in order to maintain the communications as that seems to be the main gripe I hear. The union never tells us anything etc,etc.
Perhaps a better midland No7 website like some areas have would be a great place to start.
If I might make a suggestion maybe the powers that be will let the CWU use the 42inch plasma screens to get the message across - all in the spirit of cooperation of course - instead of a never ending stream of saddos pitching a wedge.

Good point however i dont think you can use a TV legally without a licence Now Now Royal Mail i hope your not breaking the law you might have an injunction taken out against you

It has been even more and more noticable, the lack of coms coming from HQ. The Union as a whole at this time more than ever needs to be organised but the lack of info coming from the top is stunning to say the least.
We have the WWW at our fingertips which can be updated very quickly, we have local websites etc that people can look to for info and websites like this which we can turn to for info but we really need the info from above.

It's time the CWU made better use of the WWW especially in times like these. This website has played a major role in the way lot's of posties are now getting organised in their individual units and coming together nationally. My colleague's are behaving as one (almost) as a result of the posters on this site spreading the knowledge, advice, support and solidarity that I have been able to pass on, because this site was setup. GREAT IDEA BUT ALSO THE BRANCH OFFICIALS FOR THE ISOLATED OFFICES SHOULD MAKE A EFFORT TO VISIT THESE OFFICES REGULARLY
I think its a great idea. It would be nice to see some one from the union turn up in Stafford, at the moment the members I speeak to feel isolated and disillusioned with the CWU. We definitely need some thing to bolster resolve and encourage people to support the union, websites and letters only do so much.
