No Saturday off, ever!

We had a team talk today and a lot of stuff came up about days/weeks off etc (due to SA's going) anyway my mate mentioned about reserves not getting a rotating day off/week off, basically we get given what we get given, no option. The LM thought reserves were on a rotating day off and said he would ask about it. About an hour later he told me that he asked the head lineo and he said reserves are not allowed a Saturday off due to operational reasons so days off are given Monday-Friday only, is this true??? Am I not entitled to spend a weekend with my family??? Anyone point me towards any agreement that I can ram down this head lineo's throat, bearing in mind he NEVER works Saturdays.

Total bollocks mate!! Any reserve/floater in a group should keep a diary as should the dim doing duties each week and make sure you have your rotating day off.. Iam sure this is in line with any agreement reached at last deal and dim cannot say that you can only have a day off between Mon-Friday as you are entitled to the same as everyone else, you should get your Rep/Area on to this asap

Think I'll have to try and contact the Area Rep, unless I find an agreement somewhere, I think my Delivery Rep is losing the will to live and don't want to burden him with more cr@p.

We had this problem in our office in the past, and when it went down the grievence line we were told that only duty holders got a rotating day off each week. As long as the reserves got a 24hr break between shifts (day off) they were not intittled to a rotating day off and so the management could move them for operational needs.

I feel this is more like a discrimination, as some are getting something that others are not.

As Captain Scarlet said its total bollocks! I'm sick of being treated like s**t, I'm a single parent with 2 kids and I would like to spend the 'whole' weekend with them once in a while. I've not had a Saturday off (apart from A/L) since last August, surely a Saturday once every couple of months ain't too much to ask! Sorry for the rant but I'm fuming

speak to all your reserves get them all to put a grievence in then to back that up get them all to withdraw goodwill i.e
overtime, bag weights,reading addresses whilst walking etc trust me it wont take long before an agreement is sought

My area rep was only talking to me last weekend over this exact issue. His words were that as far as he was concerned everyone should get a long weekend every 6th week. If not bang a grievance in. No good saying, "oh they'll just pick on me more..." The more they get away with this kind of thing, the more they'll do it. They want offices full of people who will take cr@p and do nothing about it.

In our office the reserve is given the day off of the Duty he is covering. If Duty 15 is off Saturday and he's on annual leave and covered by a reserve then the reserve has the Saturday off. Seems simple enough!
Means he can go weeks without one though, or as happened recently, have three Saturdays in a row off.

Saturday is the shortest day (at least in my office) so if you never have a Saturday off, ie you always have a weekday off, you are actually working less hours than someone with a rotating day off.

That is not the point though - the point is some people would like to have a whole 2 days off together with their family - and don't give me any tosh about having the Monday off.....how many kids do you know have a Monday off from school in term time? Come to think of it, isn't it nice to go out with friends on a Saturday without having to get up for work at 5am beforehand?

It is a clear cut case of DISCRIMINATION, no ifs no buts. Tell your DOM you are being discriminated against because you are a leave reserve. You have the same rights as any other member of staff and you want your entitled long weekends off or put in a HR1 form. Dont mess about, tell him straight. He hasnt a leg to stand on, they are just trying it on yet again.

Thats how it works in my office.

We have fixed days off rather than rotating, Im quite happy with my every wednesday off.

It will be a very brave CWU offical indeed that puts rotating days off to the vote as the saturday off boys will go bersek

not just the sat-boys&girls but the Mon boys &girls as well were st uck with with a static day off as well never get 2 days off together tried to get rep to have a re-vote but was told this was major change was not bloody happy as the rep gets sat off also mon people get an extra week off a year cos of the bnk hols
