I don't know about all of you, but i'm getting a bit peeved with the same old people ghosting overtime within there duty time within our delivery office.
Managerment allow it. The unit rep allows it because they are involved with it. It seems the Health and Safety rep allows it.
What can be done or is there a piece of legistlation in the form of an agreement i can be given to slap all over our delivery office

Yep - current agreement Phase 3 which AFAIR should be in by now:
Phase 3 – Transforming the way we work
Both parties are committed to introducing new ways of working throughout the business by April 2008. In order to achieve this there will be a trial in four offices per AGM area covering the following:

* New arrangements to cover for one another and develop sensible options to absorb absences, and increased workload, where time exists within normal hours
* To ensure all paid work hours are utilised
* To creates a working environment where employees, CWU reps and managers feel valued and motivated.

This flexibility could also facilitate arrangements for employees to make their own arrangements to cover and swap duties (subject to approval from their manager) – within contracted hours, providing quality of service is not adversely affected and there are no additional costs to the business.
Local ideas will be generated, agreed and deployed through trials by early January 2008. The trials will be nationally evaluated to identify the widest range of options for national roll out.
Local offices will be entitled to the 1.5% pay increase from 7 April 2008 subject to deployment of these new arrangements. Any offices where deployment is deferred will receive the additional 1.5% from the date of deployment
So although I don't agree with it they could stop ghost overtime based on the bolded section

thank you TBT  , but why dont you agree with this? :hmmmm Our unit rep performs S/A's within there duty time, i.e when the rest of us are sorting and the rep has swung it so they dont have to do sorting, proberbly because it interfears with there S/A's :no no , Surely the phase 3 document you have given would stop this and lots of other things going on within our delivery offices :cuppa :hmmmm

No don't disagree with ghosting overtime it was a perk of the job but it should be fairly passed around and should not interfere with the primary duty.

What I disagree with is the term * To ensure all paid work hours are utilised" as DOMs up and down the country are using this to collapse walks and force people to go out later and all sorts of other tricks. :mad

How can your rep do SA in work time while your sorting as well, the idea of SA is that you do it after your normal duties as its scheduled attendance and surely it would leave a rep open to claims of "getting in bed with the boss". The only way he wouldn't be is if the SA is shared around on a rota basis for those that want to it do, some DOs do use that system and if yours did then he has done a blinder of a deal. If your DO doesn't then I think he has gone against the spirit of a Union where you try to get the best deals you can for a majority of those you represent not a minority, and not if your included in that minority. However, this is just my opinion and without knowing the full facts I cant pass any real judgement on how he has behaved or whether he is doing the best he can for his members. You lads on the ground have to do that.

Of course the Majority/Minority argument on representation covers the whole workforce and does not take into account any other factors such as gender, race, religion or any other. If people are being persecuted because they are perceived as part of a minority group then the rep has to step in there as well.

I understand your concerns regarding your comments of duty utilisation, but fear this is the way forward Royal Mail the business wishes to run.

regarding your comments about our unit rep..this is an S/A that starts at 07.00am and finishes at 09.00am. Our rep duty starts at 06.00 like the rest of us and our sorting starts at 06.45, however our rep has made a deal that they do not do any sorting because they say that the duty they are on does not have the time to do it, however rubbing our noses in the mire by not performing any sorting and peeing on our shoulders and telling us its raining regarding the S/A they are performing kind of gives you a prospective of how sown up the unit rep has the office and how corrupt they are... unfortunatley :cuppa
