Phoning in sick (daily phone call?)

Post by norris9 »

Do you have to phone in sick every single day you are off sick, or is it just the first day?....

after the first day do they just assume you will be sick the following day unless you phone them to tell them you are coming in the morning before your shift starts?

First day. That's it, anything otherwise is bullying. You are supposed to be left to recover.

It's a good idea to put your manager on block until you are ready to go back to work, I once blocked my manager while I was on holiday & forgot to unblock him for about three months :Very Happy

Royal Mail is ridiculous....

In the past I have phoned my line manager to tell them I am off sick, then the DOM would give me a call 1 hour later for me to explain why I am off.

It's unbelievable. I felt at the time it wasn't right. I had already phoned in sick. I needed rest. Clearly it was a tactic to put pressure on me to come back to work.

That DOM did that to every postie over a period of time. Maybe the rep stopped it at some point.

There is no trust in us posties to do the job or when we are genuinely sick.

You could be the nicest person in the world, who does the job really well, who takes just 1 or 2 days off sick a year and they will treat your like dirt and mistrust you.

Notifying absence and
maintaining contact

• Employees will advise of their absence
before the commencement of the shift
in accordance with the arrangements
set out for their office
• Discussion will cover the reason for
absence, likely duration and anticipated
return date and any support which Royal
Mail may be able to offer
• The employee and manager should
seek to agree an appropriate time and
date for reviewing together all but very
short absences

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
