Manager gave me a leave day without my permission

I had covid in August I felt pretty rubbish for a couple of days and ended up calling in sick for 1 of them. Manager said he wouldnt put me through as sick. I thought okay whatever I didn't really care as I am never off work so whether he put me through as sick or not wasn't an issue. Anyway I've just noticed checking my annual leave on the app that he has actually used my annual leave to cover that day.. 7hrs... my question is surely he cannot just use my annual leave like that without asking me? Where do I stand on this? He is on holiday this week so can't speak to him about it until next week

And no, he cannot use your holiday against sick.

You cannot be off sick and on annual leave at the same time. If you are off sick during a period of annual leave you get your annual leave back. Likewise, in your position, your manager cannot use your annual leave to cover sick leave, it should have been recorded as sick leave.

It is perfectly acceptable to use annual leave entitlement instead of a recorded sick absence as long as BOTH the employee and employer agree.

This happens when the absence is pre=planned, such as hospital admission for an operation and so forth, not any unplanned absence such as Covid.

Are you on an attendance stage warning at all? Only asking as he may have put a/l instead of adding another sick day to help your record....but he can't just put you in as working if you're not.
