There are what, almost 5000 of us on here now. Lets all vote for the candidates that voted against the agreement. 5000 votes would probably be twice the usual number! This is our first chance to let our union leaders know how let down we feel. Our second chance is the local elections in May when we can let Brown know the same.
All we need now is the names of the candidates that we'll be voting for. We already know Dave Warren, anyone know the rest? I got my form this morning and this time I'm going to ignore the candidates my Branch recommends and vote for those who at least publicly stood for what we did.

Good shout, it could be the 1st of many such things we can do to show we will vote for who represents US!pinstripe wrote:There are what, almost 5000 of us on here now.I got my form this morning and this time I'm going to ignore the candidates my Branch recommends and vote for those who at least publicly stood for what we did.

Appreciate there are 5000 members on here mate but if the overall membership (and not just the regular posters) are reflective of the national vote then you will struggle to get people on board for what in essence is a negative campaign. You are actuall advocating voting for people like Dave Warren over fine national union officials. Quite frankly that is farcical!!!pinstripe wrote:There are what, almost 5000 of us on here now. I can see your point Lovejoy, but are these the same 'fine national union officials' that endorsed the agreement? My point is, however badly I made it, that we should, as we said just after the ballot, use these elections to elect officials who are going to represent our views. If Dave Warren is not, in your opinion, a good choice then who is? Which of the candidates are likely to stand up for us, the membership?lovejoy wrote:Appreciate there are 5000 members on here mate but if the overall membership (and not just the regular posters) are reflective of the national vote then you will struggle to get people on board for what in essence is a negative campaign. The first point I made still stands, these elections usually return a very low percentage, enough of us still feel very angry over the fiasco of last year and there must be many more like me who have been waiting to let the CWU know just how we feel. They do not listen when you tell them or write to them, maybe they will get the message if we vote for the candidates we want, not which our Branches say they would like us to vote for, and not those who are so far removed from us they may as well put on a pink shirt with the amount of bull**** that they sprout. Sorry, just my opinion.

At the end of the day mate if you are voting against your branches then are you sure your branch officials are the right ones or is it that you are in teh minority and not the common voice??pinstripe wrote:I can see your point Lovejoy, but are these the same 'fine national union officials' that endorsed the agreement? Well what does it matter? If you consider that there are 13 votes only 17 candidates and only 5 members voted against or abstained it doesn't take a genius to realise that if you use your 13 votes you will be voting FOR someone who voted for the pay and modernisation agreement. If you don't use all 13 votes then the others will be elected by default. So lets not get carried away by thinking the voting is going to make a difference - we are going to end up with the same dross we always have and the reason for that? - because not enough people become involved in union affairs. And I hold my hand up to that charge.pinstripe wrote:I can see your point Lovejoy, but are these the same 'fine national union officials' that endorsed the agreement? Fair point, but we must vote with our conscience. My Branch suggested voting to accept the agreement so I am in the minority, but that doesn't mean I am wrong. There have been many examples of the minority actually being right.
I have read your other post on the candidates and I agree with some of your choices, not with others, some I don't know enough about to comment on. If we all agreed on everything, there would be no point in elections, likewise while I agree with some of your points, I disagree on others, but I respect your opinion.

Voting against the Branch's reccomendations.
Up till now, I have always voted according to the reccomendations. Because I have only had the Election Address to go on, and deffered to the knowlege of my Branch. Now however, we have the ability to compare notes, and hopefully, find some first hand experiences of the Candidates. Therefore, we can make a more considered decision, on who to vote for.pinstripe wrote:lovejoy wrote:

Just going on a list of who voted for the Pay and Modernisation Agreement, is far from practical, as it would mean that you wouldn't use all your votes. However: I do think that it would be useful to have a list of who voted AGAINST the Agreement, so that they can get a resounding vote of confidence from us. Then we would just need to decide which of the other Candidates we wish to support.

I found a web page off site that claims Jane Loftus was against the deal - its comment number 4
BTW I personally will not use the who supported who did not support the agreement as my sole reason for voting for a particular candidate, but it will be a factor.
There is also a list here http://cwurankandfile.wordpress.com/list-of-supporters/ that is a list of those members who were publicly against the deal (Not PEC members) just in case any are candidates.
On this page there are clues to who rejected the deal but no names http://solidaritymagazine.wordpress.com ... -the-deal/
Not sure if its right though.Jane is a fighter for the union and head and shoulders above the windbags pontificating on her role. Jane registered her opposition to the deal at the PEC. That’s her right. But she could not continue as President and campaign against the deal. Correctly she chose to continue as President rather than let a right winger take it.

I wouldn't refuse to vote for someone solely because they voted FOR the Agreement. But personally, I feel that it showed a great deal of guts for the remaining 4 to stand up to the majority of the NEC, and stand up for what we wanted. So I feel it's only right, if I vote for them solely on that basis. Purely as a vote of confidence in them. As I said in another Thread, it still leaves 9 votes to use for other people. I won't, for example, vote for the new Candidates simply to spite the ones who voted for the Agreement. I'll cast my votes based on their merits.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:I found a web page off site that claims Jane Loftus was against the deal - its comment number 4Not sure if its right though.Jane is a fighter for the union and head and shoulders above the windbags pontficating on her role.
