How many will strike

Last time we had a strike only 6 of us out of about 40 went on strike, now we have about 34 posties and after a quick chat at work it appears just 3 of us are prepared to strike! Trouble is we are now are predominantly part time office and people say they just can’t afford to. I’m not sure if the 3 of us will even do it now as we feel disappointed by lac of support. Do you think many will actually go out with the current cost of living, maybe Thompson knows this and will call our bluff

Getting your John Hancock on the ballot paper and a massive yes vote is one thing, boots on the ground, another.

Unlike Rico Back, Simon Thompson is the quiet one and the one to be concerned with his long-term objectives. Think the Regulator is behind his motives.

It is obvious a walk out is going to happen, so best start putting away a few quid each week as a strike fund.

Unless the CWU does the same as in the 2009 dispute, turnout cannot be guaranteed. That is Mail Centre walk out one day, delivery office next, followed by VOC. It crippled Royal Mail and employees only lost one days pay a week. Everybody is happy. For some reason, the CWU is reluctant to replicate this successful course of action.

It is most important they maintain the enthusiasm of the members

But no matter what, this is an endgame for both Royal Mail and the CWU if these changes are instigated by executive action and no proportional response maintained.

Everybody taking IA loses out financially, but ultimately if you and your colleagues decide not to take action if it is called, that is something you & your colleagues will have to reconcile with yourselves and those who were prepared to take action to try and bring RM back to a sensible conversation. None of us take IA lightly, but it only has a chance of working if there is a critical mass of people prepared to do it. Around 3/4 of the CWU represented staff said they were prepared to take action and I would really like to think that all of those will actually step up to then plate if it is required. I will.

Why vote yes if your not prepared to go out.

To be fair, boots on the ground is just one possibility with a trade dispute. You can have a work to rule as one example as an alternative. All a ballot does is give legal protections to the employee.

It's been weird with the share price, with a strike ballot having been passed I would have expected a fairly sharp drop in the share price by now, but if anything it seems to be slowly creeping upward

All a ballot does is give legal protections to the employee.

Like a lot of what you're putting on here that simply isn't true.

To be lawful a ballot paper must specify the type of industrial action the members are voting for, for a work to rule or an overtime ban or anything short of a strike it has to include action short of a strike on the ballot paper.

Our ballot is a strike ballot.
It does not mention action short of a strike therefore it would be unlawful to do so.

The membership have lost faith and don't really take the CWU leadership seriously any more. Why should RM or the shareholders?
