Duty holders moved on rotation to another DO about 8 miles away(my DOM manages both units)

Hello, I am wondering if anyone can help me. Basically I work in a small office with only 9 duties so we have 2 reserves. I am a duty holder and my DOM is moving us duty holders to other office up the road (so we can lapse) over either of the two reserves. This is done on a rotational basis, but we all feel we should not be moved as we are duty holders and not reserves. One reserve apparently has a clause in her contract that she cannot be moved to other DOs and apparently the other reserve told DOM to basically stick it , (DOM denies this). Can management do this, seems unfair, we have all done our fair share of doing different duties in different offices over the years as reserves, but when you sign for a duty you don't expect to be treated as such, maybe occasionally but not every week. Any help would be greatly appreciated,

don't forget you start and finish at your normal office and its upto the Dom to organise transport to and from the office you'll be working from

Believe this all depends on when you started working for Royal Mail. Do not quote me but believe from the time delivery methods were introduced contracts of employment had mobility clauses inserted. As long as you start and finish within your set duty time and not put into any financial disadvantage.

That is why you insist you use a company van to travel to this satellite office.

You do not use your own vehicle. If the manager insists say you do not have business insurance or authority from your insurance company to travel to another office location besides your normal designated place of employment. Different insurance companies have different rules of cover so you need to check,

Travelling eight miles to another office is not unreasonable as long as stated previously, you are not put at any disadvantage under the "As Directed" clause.

I joined RM in the very early 2000s and without digging my contract out, I'm fairly sure that there's something in there about potentially having to work at any RM anywhere

There is a clause about needs of the business or whatnot in the contract I think. I can't get to other office on time if I use the train and I don't drive at all so cannot use a vehicle, I did say to others that what I heard on this forum was manager arranged transport to and from other DO but my collegues disputed this. Firstly, are you personally being sent? But how are you getting there if you can't get by train and can't drive?

Secondly, with an office of nine rounds and without knowing the setup, is it likely that your office has a spare van
to get anyone there?

It seems that if someone needs to be sent, it should include the reserve that has told the manager to 'do one' and
it should be done on a rotational basis, so the manager needs to get a grip. And I'd expect transport to be provided even
if it's a van coming from the other office.

If not, your personal 'get out' clause seems to be you don't have transport. I'd dig your contract out, mine says
I could be required to work for RM anywhere in UK, but it doesn't say I have to provide my own means to get there.

Why don't you just approach the Union. sounds as if this manager is asking you as you may be more compliant than the others.Or he's just got it in for you.
