VOTES OF NO CONFIDENCE IN A REP

Simple question.

If a no confidence petition is raised asking for a rep to be removed, what are the national rules on this?

Does the petition have to cover a certain percentage of the mebership to force the removal of the rep?

Any thoughts anyone?

It has to be more than 50% of the membership signing the petition, which you then send to your branch. But be sure that you have good reason for doing this as its an ugly process that if it isn't justified you will find yourself having all manner of problems when it comes to your sick record etc.

You also need someone to stand in his place as an election would have to take place to fill the vacant rep's position.

Is there any way you can tell us what this rep has done before you go ahead with this? We are all here to advise you and may be able to point you in the direction you need to be taking. Sometimes a vote of no confidence isn't the best way.

It would be difficult to get a vote of no confidence against an area rep due to the numbers needed.

remember to be careful what you wish for

hope it all works out for the best for the members in your work place also unit rep elections are annually so it may be to your advantage to speak to your branch and see what they advise as it will take some time to process all this.

The stuff about Sick Records, is that it is your Union Reps who fight your corner when you are genuinely ill, but harrassed by you managers over your Sick Record. If you fail to remove the Rep, he or she will most likley tell you to get lost if you need his/her help in the future.

As the Head of the RDC Network told us in a meeting recently: If you have a lot of sick leave, even if it's not your fault, they will try to get rid of you!

bit of an update - the area rep claims he cannot get involved as it is a branch issue - no urgency from the branch - indeed they are saying the rep has to stay in place - the members are very unhappy.

any suggestions where to next?

I am sure that all cwu reps have to stand for re election every two years. Maybe a more suitable candidate will come forward and stand against the current rep when he is due for re election.

re election of a i/r rep is to take place every year.. unless you are from the northern ireland no1 branch where they have not had elections going on for three years now because some greedy cxxts love going to conference again and again and again.

oh and p,s if the members dont want the rep and have the majority the branch must do something about it...ring someone at hq they will tell you the branch must act..

next chapter - rep refuses to raise disagreements and the branch sit on their hands..area rep says it is out his hands....

two members raise disagreements - branch and local management refuse to recognise them....

so this leaves us at the mercy of rep and the managers...

what next?

it sounds to me that you are just trying to cause trouble. i am sure that a member can not register a disagreement it has to be a union rep. if i was you i would let it go and stand against him in the election[/quote][/code][/list][/list]

No but the Union rep should at least get a feeling from the members and if there is majority support for these members positions then the rep should run with it, even if they disagree with said position. After all Reps are there to present the members majority view not their own.
