special delivery and tracked items

Post by barrapostman »

Hi there. Does anyone know what the average number of special delivery and tracked items postmen/women are delivering each day? In our office we can do 100 of both a day on delivery routes of up to 300 properties. It certainly feels a lot and the extra time taking photos and signatures is making it really difficult to finish on time without rushing the deliveries. Needless to say, senior management are saying the mail is decreasing... Any info much appreciated, thank you.

Don't local management give you each day the previous days traffic figures? You could just divide that amount by however many walks there are

Up to 300 properties? If I were you I'd keep quiet, l would be very happy with 300 properties

I thought that most walks were getting towards 1,000 dps. Is it possible that the OP does a firms walk?

If barrapostman is from Barra then it's not really a typical duty, would imagine it's quite rural and can't imagine much presence from the other parcel delivery firms.

Looking at Barra on Google Maps with the satellite layer on, I'm guessing that the OPs walk covers the whole of Barra Island and maybe Vatersay Island to the south

Never in 2 decades have we been told what the previous days traffic was, and also never has the forecast been accurate.

Depending on who is doing the traffic forecast it can sometimes be very accurate, OK they're never going to get it spot on but within 1k of the actual, sometimes they'll get it within a couple of hundred of the actual.

It's probably partly why RM want to get barcodes on everything as they'll have much more accurate traffic figures. As more and more items get the 2D barcodes it's possible that they might eventually be able to forecast traffic down to walk level as the 2D barcodes have the address encoded in them

Thanks for the replies. We know our own figures, I was just wondering how they compare with other offices. Most of our delivery points are individual properties and therefore individual stops, so it may not seem as big a delivery route. Anyway I will check back later, thanks for the responses.

Who cares, just ask manager to test all the walks they should then tell you how long it should take, the number of tracked and specials is irrelevant you have a start and finish time, don’t rush use the trolley and take your break
