Hey all after a little advice, I transferred to another office 10 months ago with a shift advertised as
Shift pattern
- Part time 25 hours per week.
- working between the hours of 10:15 and 15:15.
- Five days across Monday to Saturday.
- One day of during the week (Rotational day off).
I've been working this pattern since with the addition of an hours overtime at the start of each shift so effectively doing 30 hours 09:15 to 15:15. But having told management I'm no longer able to do the hours overtime I was told they are giving me 28 days notice to change my hours. Spoke to office rep who says if they give you 28 days notice they can do what they want if it's for operational requirements. So my questions are
1, Can they just change my hours that I transferred on because the advertised hours were the grounds on which I transferred.
2, if management can just do what they want under the massive umbrella of operational requirements, is there any point in me paying my union subs going forward.
3, As advertised I've currently been on a rotational day off but been informed that I'm likely to lose that soon, so can that just be taken away most likely because of operational requirements or do I have grounds to request I keep it. Sorry for the long post any advice would be much appreciated.

Re: Shift pattern change
They can change your hours of attendance with notice but cannot increase or reduce your 25 hour contracted hours without your consent
Your contract of employment states contracted hours, not hours/days of attendance

Re: Shift pattern change
Yeah just to clarify it's the hours of attendance changing not the number of hours. If I'm honest the change is marginal and not a massive disruption for me, it's more the principal of it that bothers me. Why advertise hours if apparently the shift pattern didn't exist in the first place. Funnily enough a job advertisement has gone up in my office with the same 10:15 -15:15 times albeit with a a caveat of Flexibility will be required to cover 09:00 to 19:00 as requested by the Delivery Office in the current climate. The job I applied to transfer on had no such caveat hence the reason they are changing my times.

1:Yes they can change your times of attendance but not the number of hrs you are contracted for. 28 days notice.
2:Unfortunatly 'within reason' but reps should keep an eye on piss taking.
3:No they can't screw you over about days off, you are entitled to an average of 1 Sat off in 6, an average though as they will say it can't religiously be every 6 weeks. (In every agreement since SDD - Way Forward)
Get your rep on the case but tbf he/she sounds like a walkover.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
