In my office currently there are a few people who are on 27.5 hour duties. They are supposed to start at 8.30 ish with their duties already prepped for them so they can take it out as soon as they arrive and finish at the same time as everyone else.
Over the last 7 months they've all come in a few hours early every day to prep their own frame as this is part of a revision that isn't working, which they've all volunteered to do and have continued to do, and the management want it as it's needed.
Recently they are all trying to get an increase to full time hours off the back of this as they've done it for several months, and there is clearly the hours there. It seems like they may be considering letting them have it. However if they start doing full time hours, it would mean they'd have to change their duties from 27.5 hours to 37 hours.
The thing that frustrates me is that I have been trying to get full time hours for a while now, and I have about 10 years seniority on these people. If I knew the 27.5 hour duty was going to be increased to full time, I'd have picked it in the repick. I've been working 50 hours a week pretty much since I joined the office. These duties are amongst the best in the office, so if they got increased to full time, they would be the most popular rounds.
There was a full time reserve vacancy that was advertised months back that I didn't go for as I didnt want to give up having a day off rotation. None of these people applied for that either. So what they want is to keep their duties and increase to full time which is understandable but it doesn't seem fair.
So what I'm asking is, does seniority for this still count? If the duties are increased to 37 hours, should they be advertised around the office? As the duty length is different to what it was supposed to be on the revision?
I know the union have this agreement about working over your hours for 6 months. But does that bypass seniority. Would they get an increase over me and stay on their duties just because they so happen to be on the duties despite me working around the same hours but not on that specific duty?

Re: seniority relating to increase in duty length
I thought that if they review the hours and decide to make duties full time it doesn't matter whos been doing the hours the new full time duties go to the most senior person that applies for it?
That doesn't sound right if they do I the way your saying they want to

Yeh thats what I thought. As if they change those duty hours to full time duties then it surely must be advertised. I think I'm just concerned about something that hasn't happened yet. Thanks

Re: seniority relating to increase in duty length
As the duties have increased in contracted hours they need to be advertised as vacant duties and filled using seniority.

I expect the DOM will try and parachute the newly made up posties into the duties they've been covering ...... because it's the easiest thing to do, involving the least ammount of work..... for him.
Make sure your Rep gets all these "New Full Time Duties" advertised on the noticeboard. They should then be allocated on SENIORITY basis. The Newly made up Full Timers can then take their turn and perhaps sign for the duties that have been vacated.
If this doesn't happen contact the Area Delivery Rep. We've done this in the past and have had people removed from duties because they hadn't been advertised. Good Luck.

The problem is and I seem to remember having a convo on here with either Woody or Clash, and not looking to muddy the waters, but the wordings as per are ambiguous and as per, Bob or Sue could create a stink about said words.
But the rule of thumb in the business is yes seniority rules, and 99.99% of peeps would say it's the 'duty' that gets the hrs not the OPG's who are doing it.

Re: seniority relating to increase in duty length
The most important thing is your Staff in Post (SIP) against your actual working duties (AWD). For example you may have 20 FT duties, 5 PT duties and 4 FT reserves which means your AWD is 29. 24 of those duties are FT so there should be 24 FT SIP, if it’s below that number then the most senior PT member(s) should be offered the uplift to full time (now 35 hours) until your office is running on the agreed number of FT staff.

In our office the part timers that do OT to cover a full time duty are losing the OT
