The labour and trade union movement have lost a true legend of the highest integrity, he was my boss when he was a National Secretary and Assistant General Secretary of the T&G and then Unite. He was so approachable to everyone and would always help members or officers to the limit an unbelievable workaholic for the working class cause. He was admired by his counterparts in other unions he worked with in the public sector and he lived his life like a saint. He believed in reps and officers having a good working relationship with employers based on mutual respect and nothing else he hated any form of corruption especially in the branches.
We had many disagreements on politics but he loved that because he knew we both wanted the same thing it was just how we got there but on trade unionism he was a model of integrity, professionalism and commitment something I haven’t seen yet in fact the opposite in the CWU he was a working class intellectual.
