Happens in our place. Sadly they will use the 'operational needs' line to justify it. Easier to keep agency staff covering 1 duty, and moving more experienced staff around other duties as they'll cut off less.

If the duty holder doesn't work over, what's the point of them being moved onto a different duty that is a shared van duty the same as the duty they signed for? I cant see any ' operational needs'

Screws aren't that bright but they know from experience that walk holders don't like being moved and will try to avoid it happening. The threat is normally enough to get the duty holder to fall into line. The point would be to piss you off so you'll do as your told. I often get swapped about to cover other walks as I've done every walk in the office, I don't care, others do for their own reasons.

The point is the screws think/hope it will work or even if it doesn't it'll piss off the opg.
I can see why some wouldn't want to be taken off their duty, especially if they've done their best to keep it ticking over. The thought of someone making a total balls up of it and dropping it back in their lap like a hot turd is enough to give some walk holders the heebie-jeebies. Maybe the screws think that the duty would be easier for agency staff to get their heads around?Who knows for sure? Not even the management probably. If they're owt like ours .....

This happens frequently in our DO, has happened to me.

Like Sir Henry, I didn't care, others jump up an own and turn it into an episode of Eastenders. Then proceed to tear up whatever duty they've been moved to, skip their breaks and complete in overtime.

Whereas I work as I always do, taking my breaks and to time and bring back/cut off what can't be completed.

After a few days I'm stuck back on my duty and then very rarely moved, while the cast of Eastenders get taken off frequently.

It's a big game of psychology, reverse psychology and passive aggression. The winner will always be the one who learns to shrug off the s**t, learn to play within the rules and forget about the RM Shitshow at the end of their shift.

Not that I can remember, the only recourse is if you are singled out or if it happens regularly. Take your rep to see the DOM, ask why it's your walk that has been chosen, if it is the ONLY walk that has been chosen and if it is the same agency worker replacing you for the entire period. I'd argue that to move someone from their signed walk during Xmas pressure when they would be more productive if they remained is counterproductive. The Dom could make it a week on week off deal but that would depend on their reason for placing an agency worker on your duty to start with. In any case Union needs to keep a record as to who is being displaced and for how long. Your Xmas tips might be a consideration.
