2022 Wage negotiations and beyond
Hi there
Does anyone know how the 2022 wage negotiations are going?
Hearing places like Wincanton are giving up to 20% increases, given the HGV shortage and general shortage, am hoping for a favourable outcome given all the changes they are forcing on us...
Even our German counterparts are getting a nice lift in the minimum wage from EUR9/hr to EUR12/hr in 2022

The Union should be asking for £15-£20 per hour from next year with the cost of living go up and the increase in national insurance.
If not we should be balloting.

We won’t get a 2022 pay rise until we’ll into 2023 , that’s how our union work I’m afraid.

We know what's coming and that will another hour off the working week (that will have to pay for itself).
We desperately need money in our back pocket and and I hope we don't settle for anything less.

Re: 2022 Wage negotiations and beyond
I was reading that royal mail profits were at record levels, so I don't understand why our union wouldn't want to get us a better pay deal!!?
Frankly I'm wondering whether if I'm better off just jumping ship, money is pretty tight and everything is getting so much more expensive. Finding it hard to make ends meet

Re: 2022 Wage negotiations and beyond
they won't start real negotiations until well into 2022, then we'll have had a slack summer month and get offered 2% with TP bigging up the back pay due just before xmas and many will see the £ signs and vote yes, even though the sww with no change in workload will apply again,
meanwhile the cost of living will continue to rise meaning effectively a pay cut

1 hour off the working week so you’ll all be coming in early to get done. A box of biscuits for Christmas and an Easter egg for Easter. That’s your lot I’m afraid.

Re: 2022 Wage negotiations and beyond
glasgow binmen offered £1,100 to their wages if they earn less than £25k per year
we are being underpaid every year has been i pay cut in real terms
and if you take away share issue payments bonusses etc it would be much worse
minimum wage used to be over £4 of a difference to our wage not any more

Re: 2022 Wage negotiations and beyond
Guy at our office has just jumped ship to work on the bins for Wakefield Council. Shift pattern is Tuesday to Friday with every Saturday, Sunday and Monday off. This is full time hours (37) and he was told it was job and knock at the interview as long as their round is done, supposed to be a 3pm finish but most get away around 2pm. I think the hourly rate is a little less than ours but im guessing their work load will roughly be the same everyday all yearhans solo wrote: ↑09 Nov 2021, 08:30glasgow binmen offered £1,100 to their wages if they earn less than £25k per year

Might be a slightly higher workload in the summer, depends if the local council has garden waste collections in the summer. if they're the driver of the bin truck then part of their duty might include driving the gritter trucks during frosty conditionspostiewhite wrote: ↑26 Nov 2021, 00:28Guy at our office has just jumped ship to work on the bins for Wakefield Council. Re: 2022 Wage negotiations and beyond
I see. Im keeping one eye on his progress for the future to see how he compares this new job to RM. He hated it here even though he was only on a 4 day cover like me. If he sticks this new job on the bins after a year and genuinely thinks the work is better then its one for me to think about.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑26 Nov 2021, 00:51Might be a slightly higher workload in the summer, depends if the local council has garden waste collections in the summer. if they're the driver of the bin truck then part of their duty might include driving the gritter trucks during frosty conditionspostiewhite wrote: ↑26 Nov 2021, 00:28Guy at our office has just jumped ship to work on the bins for Wakefield Council. RM does have some pros such as you can earn as much as you want not that I do much OT but they option always seems to be there. There are many obvious cons too but a lot of these cons are becoming more apparent recently. There is not a lot of people that seem genuinely happy in this job anymore compared to a few years back. A few in our office are jumping ship, hardly any jumped ship 5 yrs ago.
