How do I stop paying my union subscription? CWU have been an embarrassment in my office, so after 35yrs I'm leaving the union

As per the FAQ page on the CWU website:

Cancellations need to be received in writing either by email to membership@cwu.org or by letter to CWU Membership Department, 150 The Broadway, London SW19 1RX. Please include your full name and membership number.

I find it ironic that they call themselves the Communication Workers Union while seldom communicating with their members nowadays.

I emailed and it was cancelled straight away before my next pay slip. Simple. Should have done it years ago. The letter from the top man and zero comment from the union was the final straw for me.

to be honest, that's the only reason it's worth staying in the union, for personal representation should the need arise,

Being in the union could be seen by many as the "lesser of two evils". If too many people were to leave the union, then the union would get de-recognised by RM. It then would truly be open season on what RM forced through

So what are the rules on getting help and having official representation if in dispute with your commandant/company ?
Can you only have a Union rep or can you have your own lawyer/solicitor - just curious as to the rules

Stay in union you ever know when u might need them to fight a case for you. Just for example you are involved in a RTC you are taken to court, your union should provide a solicitor. If you are not in union think of how much money that court case will cost, just in solicitor fees alone.

Normal circumstances when you need representation in a work place is.

1 your union rep.
2 anyone from your workplace.

You are not normally allowed outside assistance.

You have to exhaust all internal processes before going out side, and RM do not have to have entertain Mr Petrocelli for internal stuff anyway.
It's all a nonsense thing using outside peeps for inside squabbles anyway, even the serious ones.
