On searching this site for information on Seniority i found the following answer by "fishtank" 2011;
".... my union rep that it's between me and Another guy although we both started at The same time I have seniority over him alphabetically . Is this true ?

The answer to your first question is....No.
When two people start on the same day the seniority "tie-breaker" works on this basis and in this order.
1. Previous service in Royal Mail Group.
2. Date of selection.
3. Date of Birth.
The alphabet has sod all to do with it. End quote.
A group of us started on 20 hour part time 3 month rolling contracts for 2 years. Then received long term/Permanent contracts.
A year later all of the group, except me, increased their hours to 35 when another group of staff were taken on.
My question is; Would my seniority be affected, in terms of PT V FT, since that change in hours. (Or would that be seen as treating a Part-Time employee less favourably)

Re: Seniority Answer and Question
You've answered your own question really, all service regardless of contract is now treated equally, anything else would be unlawful.
And I wouldn't trust that fishtank geezer..

Re: Seniority Answer and Question
During the recent revision it was indicated the changes made would mean that age would be a factor in who was included. ie the 6 youngest.
Since found this;
Seniority Guide for employees 2013
Commencing employment on the same day
Where several employees have the same length of service, as defined above, the order of seniority will be determined as follows.
For employees recruited before 14 February 2000 the order was:
• any periods of Royal Mail Group service on other grades, i.e. longest total
Royal Mail Group service first,
• existing substantive grade, highest first
• If still equal then - position on previous locally agreed seniority list at 14
February 2000, highest first
In the CWU Way Forward Agreement the order was:
• Date of selection
• Date of birth
Following the Age Regulations in October 2006, the sequence will be:
any periods of Royal Mail Group service on other grades, i.e. longest total RoyalMail Group service first,
• Date of written confirmation offering employment, earliest first
• If still equal then - date of interview, earliest first
• If still equal then - date of test, earliest first
