Is there a standard D2D Policy?

Post by Lilly J »

Does anyone know if there’s a D2D policy in place since the start of the Covid madness from March 2020?

Offices have been told to take only where they’re going with live mail, but do the rest of the D2Ds roll over to the following week? Isn’t this breaking the contract between the leaflet supplier and RM? Don’t they just last a week? And also, does this include delivering them on Saturdays?

Can anyone clarify these points? Thanks.

I have been trying to find it but yes I believe there is a non-standard policy, because of Covid, to not cold call with just D2Ds.

As far as I know, the contractees have been or will be informed that this is happening.

D2ds have always been a 6-day service at my office, but most get rid of them over the week. But to be frank, if you are going there on a Saturday and you have a D2D for them it would make sense to deliver them. But perhaps that wasn't your question.

It was a letter sent out to managers in March 2020 on D2D guidance.

As you suspect is was due to Covid. To paraphrase we were told to:

"Prep all "Households" on Monday and only take them to an address you are delivering addressed mail to, to save time outdoors. We call this "Warm Calling".

If by Friday (or Saturday) you have not delivered the D2D with an addressed item and don't have time to deliver them, as an exception diuring Coronavirus Outbreak we can roll any residue into the second week".

Although now everyone's allowed to go down the pub and dissappear on foreign holidays I expect all bets are off. Having said that we've not been told any different so far. :cuppa

We have been told that our revision process will allow time for all D2D to be prepped on Monday to allow for warm calling during the week "as this has been agreed between management and the CWU"
There is no standard policy as people just do what they like.
In the meantime I presume the D2D graveyard by the drinks machine will continue to grow apace.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

how has anyone who's got a duty of say...1100 calls and nearly all double slots, got time to prep in their frame 4400 d2ds (4 sets) before they even put a letter in. even the managers at ours know its impossible with time constraints so it just doesn't happen.

So what does happen then? Is it a case of the Old saying, "I'll take the Households out with me and deliver them as I go along"? Which normally means I'll take them out with me and I'll throw them in the first wheely bin I come across. :cuppa

Don’t suppose you’ve got a copy of that actual letter? Was it meant to be disseminated to staff?

I think that's a good option. :thumbup Especially if you've got a dodgy first delivery slot..... you've always got a bit of work to do if the mail's late.:cuppa

Something perhaps a bit more definitive re D2D in the "Agreed National Joint Guidelines in Delivery Units for
Planned Structural Revision Activity" document from the recent agreement:
Changes to Door to Door – Warm Calling Only

Both RM & CWU are fully committed to the D2D product and are also committed to jointly increase market
share of unaddressed items and the revenue associated. Further discussions including future automation
of the product will take place in line with the Pathway to Change Agreement.
As part of this commitment and in order to improve the quality of service and to ensure the product is
delivered as efficiently as possible, both parties have agreed that as part of all structural revisions delivery
units will plan for and operate Warm Calling only, which requires full collation and preparation of items on a
Monday.
Therefore, all of the necessary operational guidelines and supporting materials will be revised to
capture the change and additional workload will be added to IWT to factor in the additional ancillary tasks
which are required (this is over and above the actual workload calculated for the change). It is agreed that
further Industrial Engineer studies will be required to capture the change and ensure the correct planning
values can be finalised for future revision activity/planning, including further studies in relation to a base
and six configurations.

Seems to be a case that some folk ignore them for a week, then launch them onto the york of excess D2Ds for return to the mail centre...
