If you are told to lapse and have time then you follow orders.
If you don’t have time then tell the manager you can’t do it.
Simples..?

Why would they offer it too overtime first? Surely if people are consistently getting back early they should do more lapsing, that’s the way forward so people don’t consistently finish 1-2 hours early every day

Its really not that simple. The very fact there is lapsing makes many feel they have to go faster in order to now complete the lapsing as well as their duty. If there wasnt lapsing theyd maybe go at a slower more manageable pace and thus allow them to work till later in life.

Plus the argument every morning and being made to feel useless, the threats of the pda actuals being checked and a performance review, the threat of being taken off your duty. The whole bag of RM management tricks thrown at you to do it even if they know full well you don’t have time. I have been there too long to fall for all that but u can see and hear what it does to people when these conversations are going on in the morning, it’s mostly the reason people come in early at my office as they don’t want to go through the above.mjd24 wrote: ↑18 May 2021, 17:16Its really not that simple. And its not always about “bullying”; ive found that with line managers im pally with, theres a sort of unsaid thing whereby i feel like i dont want to let them down or create hassle for them by not doing the lapsing, even when i know that it will definitely take me over my finish time.

Bullying management saying the cover guy does lapsing no problem ( but they come in 1/2 hour early because they don’t like confrontation).
The PDA actuals can be used to your advantage just tell the management to check them.
Just remember if you refuse lapsing you obviously can’t finish before your time.

There lies your problem, after many years in the job I am not and will not be pally with any of them, why? Because I might have to upset them from time to time and thats hard to do if you get to close to them.mjd24 wrote: ↑18 May 2021, 19:22And its not always about “bullying”; ive found that with line managers im pally with, theres a sort of unsaid thing whereby i feel like i dont want to let them down or create hassle for them by not doing the lapsing, even when i know that it will definitely take me over my finish time.

A big problem in Royal Mail, others are pally and/or know their misdemeanours another problem is family members in the office, a clear conflict of interests. Royal Mail can't hope to move forward until this is sorted.Bit hard when youre current line manager is your previous van share partner

Re: lapsing or OT
I had this issue where I was saying consistently that I couldnt take lapsing as I didn't have time. The line manager was saying that I was dragging it out and maybe this wasnt the job for me. After about the fifth time of him trying to belittle me in front of everyone I told him to stop talking about checking PDA actuals and my performance and actually do it. He went off in a huff. Never heard another word about it from him. One of the other linos told me a few days later he had spend hours going over my stats but couldnt find anything to hit me with.Grumpyoldmailman wrote: ↑18 May 2021, 19:13Plus the argument every morning and being made to feel useless, the threats of the pda actuals being checked and a performance review, the threat of being taken off your duty. Re: lapsing or OT
Citing the PDA Actuals does seem to be an Achilles Heel for them. Similarly, did likewise during the usual bombardment of fallacy, sophistry, belittling, feigned ignorance and threats of conduct code or removal from duty.celtic1967 wrote: ↑20 May 2021, 13:32I had this issue where I was saying consistently that I couldnt take lapsing as I didn't have time. After all, PDA Actuals are a resourcing tool?
Well done you. I do think PDA Actuals are the friend that delivery side never had before....even if they were in the union.
