Grievance

I know off a mate in my depot who is in on a charge of willful delay.Missed PO on a sat and got caught with the mail on Monday morning. He's got a grievance against one of his managers, whens the best time to put this forward, afgter the charge is over, but its not looking good. Or NOW and is there any point. A few lads reckon it would delay the charge playing the grievance.

ADVICE PLEASE, HE'S UP IN THE MORNING.

Have you got a good union rep or area rep to go in with him? Also, did the manager know about the grievance going in against him? Ones in our office that either number 1, are off and come back of long sick, or number 2 have put a bully complaint in they seem to go after them with the rules when they return.

I would get a good rep on his case to start with and do not go in alone .

If he had mail on him on Monday that should've been delivered on Saturday then he's screwed but if there is a reasonable excuse for delaying it (premises inaccessible or dead mail or even dog at large) then he should be ok (providing the mail went back to the DO) and the grievance should be put in no matter what else is going on (it's not there for a bargaining tool although the managers seem to use it like that).

He is off on the sick just now with WORK RELATED STRESS but union rep says he still has to go through with it as its procedure. He asked me but im quite new and wasnt so sure. Also all letter were duds, P739's or miss-sorts etc. Even his own personal mail. No specials though.

But was it brought back to the DO/pouched off or did he take it home on Saturday and bring it back on Monday?

As disgruntle1 says it he had reason for the mail and as you say it was mail to be endorsed then he should be fine. A person who used to work in my office was always off sick and they tried to sack them for leaving mail un-endorsed on there frame! needless to say that had they walked round many many other frames they would of found same. They just wanted rid of that person, they are now gone and agreed to IHR. Seems if you are a bother or a sickie postie a lot they will do there best to rid you.

It was in his car on Monday. He was going to sneak it in but a manager came out and searched his bag inside his car. Im sure thats not allowed and have told him to pursue this as he was down to see a manager and wasna even in to begin his shift at the time.

As far as i no , no mail at all weather its to be endorsed or not cannot be taken home. How did they know he took it home anyway? did they do a bag check?

Bag check inside his car. The manager in questions got it in for him like.

No manager has a right to go out and check your car like that!!! That needs to be investigated further.

I am not so sure what that comes under but he has rights with it. Has he checked any other cars lately??? seems to me if is another case of getting that postie, is he a full-timer by any chance?

Mail should never be taken home

and I'm afraid that he doesn't have a leg to stand on, sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings but this has come up before and the result is always the same 'sacked'. He should still get the rep to try to go with him to make sure that everything is done correctly by the manager.
