Any of you young lads and ladies reading this it,s not to late to find a good career elsewhere , the building trade is looking really good at the moment, for a lot of us it is already to late.
Is it fair to assume you have worked on the pilot? what exactly are the new working practices ? we're there teething problems? did you still use the frames if not how did you get the mail? anyone else out there with first hand experience of the new arrangements?
No one has actually come forward with any real details of how the pilot schemes are working out, does anyone know?
Apparently there is a big briefing within the CWU to discuss Walsall and Exeter and how these trials are going. The problem is that RM are jumping the gun as always. The big elephant in the room is that virtually most DOs are having problems completing at the mo due to flawed revisions based on flawed figures whether it be due to basing it around Whistl or Management getting their figures wrong and computers go on what they are fed.

The big problem with relocating DOs is finding the office space needed. In London we've had a Super DO at Premier Park and it's not been as successful as RM like to portray it as. But re SPDOs may be another ideas as RM have to relocate due to TSOs being closed down by the PO since we split. Woking for example have at least 5 subs and the plan is to relocate Woking and its subs into the VOC at Goldsworth Park the prob at the mo is that the Artics are still there and will be until the future of Gatwick is known because they may be relocated to the new Gatwick/Croydon MC if its built. At the mo 3 of the subs are in the BSD side at Goldsworth Park. I have been told that Woking was supposed to move over to Goldsworth Park 20 odd years ago but that's typical RM planning

Perhaps get to Night School (whilst your not actually working at that time) and get the qualifications for your next job? :thumbup

On the up side we've been worrying about some things happening for years....and they've never happened :cool

I will look on the Positive side. Later starts will mean a nice lie in! :thumbup
People shouldn't be forced out of a job.

You are right that a lot of 'rumours' never actually happen though.

If the cwu wanted to oppose this I'd guess a very good start would be to compare the amount of people going off sick or retiring due to ill health, since the walks have been made bigger.

At a guess I'd say that number has risen dramatically so to make those walks even bigger would be foolish. Currently we have 6 people off sick with foot/knee injuries. 3 are long term. We also have 2 on rehab doing half a walk each due to the same reasons.

So we have 8 affected by injuries right now. Our office has around 50/60 staff I'd guess so if you used that as a sample set that is a lot of staff off with injuries from work.

When I started, around 15 years or so ago, I don't remember anyone being off with injuries like this. There was the odd 'bad back' when someone wanted a week off but these are now genuine injuries that will affect people for life.

Larger walks as well as poor footwear is only going to make that number rise.

are you all coming in at correct times? taking breaks? & using trolleys? If not how can this trial be rolled out elsewhere?

What if the one wave comes in fully sequenced at 6.30am - we leave office at 7.30am - break for 30mins at 10.30am - finish delivering by 2.30pm?
Yes its a long delivery but at least we get 8hrs pay and were not out till late afternoon/evening.
These machines will come at some point lets hope our union can come up with a workable solution.

Get out while you can. Who said there would be less sick because of less staff? Sick will go through the roof. Stress will be the main sickness!

Has the trial saved much time on your indoor work? do the flats come in sequenced to each round? And how do you prep d2d in?

Not a chance in hell of any DO anywhere getting their single wave of fully sequence mail by 06:30, the mail doesn't arrive at MCs early enough for that to ever happen

Well maybe they could but why would they want to? It is more advantageous to have later starts, later finishes and longer deliveries by part time staff.

No they can't - To make that happens means getting the mail into the MC's earlier. You can do that by making collections earlier but businesses who's custom we need don't want that and will instead use a company that will collect later.

You could also, feasibly, pour more hours into night shifts and extra logistics but that entirely negates the savings that one-wave is designed to make. And entirely negates the entire one wave system.

The wave will have All packets/letters/flats/sequenced/specials all arriving at once.
Not a chance it'll arrive at 6:30 and not a chance your office will throw off all frames/sort IPS and Packets/collect specials/tie up and leave the office in a hour

And you can't speed up machines such as CSS machines any faster they run at optimum speed already.
