Hi Postiedave, I have to aggree with you my old son there is far to little Training for Unit Rep's, I've been in the job long enough to know whats right & whats wrong But I dont know the rule book inside out, as you said we just wing it & feed the managers a load of old bullshit hoping they know less than we do, some we win but most we lose. Managers have regular courses they are sent on, but a unit rep ??? Well it just depends how much of a gobby bullshitter he is, & how much of a bloody good actor. We must all be as my wife puts it GOBBY GITS willing to stand up for our & other peoples rights otherwise why would we do it. SO GREETINGS ALL YOU GOBBY GIT'S welcome to the club!

Ade,
Out of interest, what position do you hold as rep?
I've been trying to get on H&S courses but have been told it is not relevant to your role. Any advice?

Hi i'm the workplace safety rep and sub area safety rep, i know our equal ops rep got on h&s 1 as he said he may need the training to help in any claims. What position do you hold! when i know i will see if there is any way of you getting in.

Im Workplace Safety Rep.
I have done H&S 1 and 2. They said I should not have done 2 as it was not relevant to my post.
I would like to do more courses as I have a strong interest in H&S but I can not see the employer letting me do any more.

Also forgot to mention, but if anyone remembers the case of the Newcastle 4, they were a bunch of safety reps including the ASR denied paid time off for training.

See if that jogs a few memories!!!

You are entitled to any H&S courses as long as you are a recognised WSR/ASR

As long as it's training as quoted in the SRSC regs!!!

(if I'm wrong, correct me, it's a long time since I dealt with H&S)

Nice one Kawasakikid EN500 eh was after one of those a few years ago but ended up with a CX 500 Silverwing but have since sold that on, now Im one of those stuck up tosser's on a Honda GL1500 Goldwing with trailer,

As a wsr i can't see why you cant do h&s 3 when you have that then go onto occupational health, i would of gone onto that if i didn't get on the degree course. Who is saying it's not relevant to your post, fill in the application form and get your branch secretary to sign it then get it off to Alvescot as far as i'm concerned if you are a rep you can go on as many courses as poss.

It is my manager who is saying it is not relevant but I can not find out where he is getting his info from. I will persist though and see what happens. Thanks for the advice Ade
