well done dundee west :Applause

it seems now dundee east , from being one of the uks most militant offices, sadly, now, is a pussys office.

Out of 120 staff, only about 20 have a break, some come in early, and loads of numpties are still taking their cars.

Some of us are standing firm, but im disgusted by some union members- they are the ones who should be booted out the cwu! :evil/mad

It seems we are only getting a fraction of the mail we should have on delivery, so the s**t aint hit the fan yet, but a lot of us are over our time/cutting off what little mail we have got.
I can only hope that thursday friday we get hammered wi mail, and the company men have a change of heart.

By simply coming in on time, doing as the dum wishes you to do, having your break and getting the van out, would give them so much hassle.

Today , the double preppers were told to go on the IPS for an hour - i gladly went, some kicked up hell, but the answer is simple- do it, then at 08 15, tell the dum you wont be prepping the part timers walk - easy.

It doesnt help when your part timer comes in an hour and a half early - for bugger all though :evil/mad

And to those who take out their cars at half past nine - think !

3 and a half hours from 09 30 is 1pm, you get caught or do this regularly, and it gives the management scope to put in 4 and a half hour deliverys - how stupid can some folk get. :arrrghhh

The normal and sensible way of handling a major office revision is CWU rep - RM manager reach agreement, CWU members vote on proposal, dutys displayed, resign starts as under the way forward agreement, then when resign is finished there should be an agreed start time for new dutys to begin. Now when all common sense stops and RM decide to implement a major office revision threw executive action its only gonna end one way DISASTER. My advice is to do the job safely, get into mode I get paid 8hrs 6hrs or whatever your contracted hrs are and out of mode im gonna start early take my car run round my delivery and finish 10 - 30 mins early as it aint gonna happen. You should come into work monday do the job properly, if you want to do overtime do it, if you dont you cut of and its managements problem if you cant get finished in your time, dont get stressed out thats why managers get paid a hell of lot more than you do, its there revision its there problem.
P.S. as its an un-agreed revision please form an orderly queue outside your managers door on monday and not outside the CWU's.

Thats all well and good, but just when does the bullying and harassment start when their revisions are not working? Seemingly the laddies and lassies at Dundee West are 'not working hard enough' according to a manager overheard in a conversation with another. So if your not working to your time, your not working long enough and if your not finishing on your time, your not working hard enough. Heads you lose, tails they win. These people are not capable of taking responsibility for their own mistakes. The top down culture in this organisation makes me sick. :Sick

Evening all. :wave

As previously advised I did indeed go into a cut-off and was informed I would need to start at the point where it began. Then walk back to the beginning.
Subsequently I cut-off the last bag some five hands in total.

We have been informed by our sector manager that we "Are not working hard,or fast enough!"

What a joke that is! Your learning to sort all over again with overheads that are incorrect! Add to that we are only "Doing the job properly" as the company wish.

The Dim's have brought in extra help to try and bring down our large packet backlog, this morning in the shape of a manager from Kirriemuir and one from Carnoustie. To aid them in delivering they were given a map of the area they were going to deliver!

Honestly the two of them looked like fish out of the preverbial water bowl! They had never seen anything like it! The packets are like Christmas mind you with at least four yorks to every drivers sector!

ShimmyRule pointed out that many people aren't taking their breaks in Dundee East. Don't get me wrong their are some people who aren't taking the meal relief their entitled to and are still using their cars with us, despite the union rep advising them not to.

The fun continues :dance

THATS A GOOD POINT .IF YOU FINISH BEFORE YOUR OFFICIAL FINISHING TIME, THAT MEANS "YOUR WALKS A GIFT" AND YOU CAN EASILY DELIVER ANOTHER 100 CALLS. ON THE OTHER HAND IF YOU CANT COMPLETE YOUR DELIVERY ON TIME. THAT MEANS YOUR A "SLOW ,LAZY SHIFTLESS, SO AND SO"
ITS LIKE WHAT THEY DONE TO WOMAN ACCUSED OF BEING WITCHES ,THEY WOULD THROW THEM IN THE TAY AND THEY SURVIVED!!! THAT PROVED THEY WERE WITCHES. AND IF THEY DID DROWN ???. OH WELL.
ALL REPORTS ON THE ROYAL MAIL, HAVE HIGHLIGHTED THE VERY POOR CALIBRE OF MANAGEMENT AT ALL LEVELS
IN MY EXPERIENCE THE QUALITY OF MANAGERS IS GETING EVEN WORSE
ALL THEY DO IS TELL THEIR SUPERIORS WHAT THEY WANT TO HERE.

I think you've hit on something there, a new selection process for managers. If you throw them in a river and they bob back up, the're bad and if they sink the're good. I think my office has more bobbers than sinkers! :Very Happy

since this executive action has started i have changed my opinion."streaming on the street" has no affect, as you are leaving a clear frame, and managers can say that your walk is "do-able". ifeel the only action is stream indoors, cut-off, or what ive done for last 3 days, claim overtime. i hate working past my time and claiming OT, but i feel that the reason that E A has been imposed is to save money, right !!, so if we all take our time, do our job properly, and claim extended delivery, their wont be any savings, as they will all be eating up by OT payments. i appreciate this is a touchy subject, but what do you think.
P.S.
dont call Dundee " arab country" as most Dundonians support the DEES

I think you should not be working overtime. If you cannot complete your delivery, stream, cut-off or stream and cut-off. If your working overtime, why should'nt someone else?

I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiments prowler. I'm certainly not working any overtime, and under the current circumstances have no intention to. They have forced these changes upon us and by claiming overtime, people are undermining the whole point of doing the "job properly" and accepting their changes.
Make it the Dim's problem to sort.
Ours are constantly being asked by myself and my colleagues what we should do if we cannot complete. The awnser differs from one to another.
If they want you to stream then do it. There is going to come a saturation point where their going to be forced to do something about it.
Take this morning for example. I streamed before leaving the office and informed said Dim I may need to stream further due to a high volume of first class items posted by a building operator. He shrugged his shoulders and agreed.
The stream policy is to prevent you from cutting off that's all. It's a physcological move to reduce the number of complaints from the public. If they see the postie in the street, they'll tend to think their house is just not getting any mail, never mind the whole street.
This is not our fault, this is the failure of management again!
This time they must be made to realise this and I believe if we "do the job properly" for long enough they will.
The backlog is incredible with us already with at least 12-15 yorks of mailsort dating back to last week un-touched, and there aint any prospect of it going on i the near future.
Although it does appear that certain members like taxiforleighton are striking their own deals with management. If that kind of attitude persists the entire "doing the job properly" is in danger of being corrupted from within!

You are spot on Dundeepostie,
Why should we work past our time, when they have 'forced this action in'.
We are experiencing the same bullying at the Dundee East office: managers staring at us to intimidate us on the IPS; overheads wrong, frames a mess [all caused by their action, which they want us to help sort!];people were subjected to IPS tests after 2 days learning the new sorting;double prep people hauled in and told off regards standards and last night, we had all the managers in on night shift sorting the backlog.
Going back to your point on working overtime to complete the delivery, if you do this the office will be clear every day. This is exactly what they want.
I for one, will not be working past my time.
'Do the job properly', how long have we been advocating this?
Even now, we still have people not taking their breaks, hurrying out the door and coming in early. I asked a part timer what was his starting time?
I was told 09.50, this was at 9am :arrrghhh
Hang on in there at the West, by the way what's this rumour about no resign? [RM have been trying to get rid of Seniority for years]
Keep us all up to date.

Correct sir:- there is no re-sign, due to the fact that our rep advocates the fact that this would be seen as us accepting the changes they (as you have correctly pointed out )are forcing upon us. The people who held the duties that were removed (I think it was 7 in total)were placed on the spare list in order of their seniority. It meant that the person at the top of the spare list had 30 years seniority!
Don't get me wrong by the way. There are those who are not doing the job "properly" even with us. This is even after being asked by our rep why this is the case.
These people need to realise (and very quickly), that if they continue with their actions (taking their cars etc.) the job as we know it will be gone within the blink of a couple of years.
However I do accept that we are partially to blame for the prediciment we find ourselves in. If we had done the job "properly" all along we not be where we are now.
A customer of mine made a very valid point when we were forced in last week (As I put mail through his door at 1.47pm) "It's the old addage Postie". What I replied? "If it works break it! There's some money to be saved somewhere!"
