But what happens in Mail Centres when there is not enough work to occupy their contracted hours? Longer breaks, my guess? But really what happens?

Staff below requirement and use casuals to flex up and down.
No work,no need,no phone call.

And movement to other jobs, I am and IMP man and when the work is low for the imps they rotate who shuts down and goes up to packets.

There is plenty of 2nd class and they certainly don't go home like they used too..

And there's always Yorks to be pushed from point A to point B. Usually across the length of the mail centre and - if they can manage it - through some cramped halls and ferried up and down the lifts.
