Tell me lovejoy,I have no idea what your current post is, but if you were elected to a position where you had the ear of the leadership and had some influence in union affairs, what would be your wish list to put things right, that is of course if you think some remedial action is necessary.

The question is open to all and sundry, but it is intended to be a serious question and not the usual "stick 'em up against the wall" type answer.

DVbukk - You are right, it is a very worrying sign.

To be honest i'm disappointed in the whole process...again.
I think using the Voice to carry the election material is a mistake.
I know a lot of people bin it without opening it and i think having such a long period for the ballot also works against us,there is no urgency to vote, members just have a "do it later" attitude and there is nothing in place to remind them to vote....and that's without addressing the disengagement issues.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

What would I change?? A million things as I am sure many others would do.

Try to give a few.

1. Weekly communications from HQ to members. LTBs to be scrapped and replaced with tailored comms (Deliveries, political, Mail Centres etc etc). These comms could then be sent to workplaces, emailed, facebooked, tweeted etc.

2. PEC Members to be attached to Divisions (they are now) and carry out membership meetings across the UK on a regular basis. These meetings should be a mixture of in and outside of work.

3. A New IR Framework that gives local reps release, relevant training, support and guidance.

4. Stronger rules on minumum standards for branches - on comms, meetings, engagement with members. The disparity between some branches is beyond a joke. All CWU members should be able to get the same excellent level of service.

5. A complete review of the services and department at CWU HQ with the number one priority being representing members in the workplace.

6. A review of the CWU structure to maximise transparency, engagement, membership involvement, encouraging new reps and making sure we stay as an independent trade union.

As I say.........I could go on!

:Applause I totally agree with all those sentiments lj, something must be done to re-engage the membership, if only the wish was the will
