To be fair to Dingo that's far too difficult a question to answer, as far as I'm aware negotiations are at an early stage and whether a pay rise may be linked to a more comprehensive longer term package of change and reward is still up in the air.

It is common in these situations for negotiations to go on well past the end of an existing pay deal and for the pay element to be backdated, given the complicated and controversial nature of royal mail's plans it's unlikely this will be resolved without some kind of confrontation. The only guaranteed fact is that if royal mail want change it's up to us to fight to get the best deal possible for all our members.

Don't think Royal Mail will rock the boat too much as they need to keep us working and we need to be careful in terms and conditions once we get the payrise.

With the £9 living wage coming in I think RM are going to have to maintain a level of pay some way above this in order to avoid a huge recruitment problem... who the hell would be stupid enough to carry on doing this slog when for only £1 an hour less you could have a nice cushy job pottering around in a garden centre or doing supermarket home deliveries etc

Most companies have to auto enroll their staff into a pension, although smaller companies who only employ 30 or less staff are still in the process of introducing their schemes. By 2018 all employers should be offering a pension.

Only way a shorter working week would work would be to employ more staff, half would do the first half of the week, the rest would do the other half of the week

Shorter working week is essentially a pay rise is it not? Each hour dropped from the working week is ~2.5% increase in wage!

its not a pay rise we should worry about its what royalmail want for a payrise, we will all have to weigh up if whats offered is worth want they want.
Look at the state of the job since the last 3 pay rises. :hmmmm

Spot on! There is a price to pay for everything. I'd happily swap a pay rise for better working conditions.

Every per cent pay rise has to be paid for with a ton of crap to deal with every day.

Shorter working week? You'd just have to do the same work in less time. Half of us are part time anyway, so we'd never see a shorter working week, just a few pence on our hourly rate.
