Re: Poll - longer deliveries or less Full Timers.
people in my do are suffering really bad physically with the current deliveries let alone bigger deliveries!
we are about 4 years into the new way of working & we are starting to see the full effect of longer deliveries.
Another 4 years of the current workload & the cwu will be in a very bad spot.
More & more all the time with no extra time.

Just on the train back from Birmingham after a good meeting.
Royal Mail have a 5 year plan which includes moving to one wave and ultimily torwards a purely outdoor model.
The strategy is dependent on purchasing 20 Large letter sorting machines which will sequence all manual letters , flats etc.
However the fact is that they have an interim position where they believe they could go to one wave in 65% of delivery offices in the UK if they could move starts later from as early as January.
So we need to establish an interim position and a longer term strategy.
If they were to via the IR framework propose in those 65% offices that your sequenced work will be coming in two hours later and therefore we don't need you to start when you do and don't need the amount of full time and we don't need part timers who are working above their contracted hours than what do we do ? We discussed this and clearly we have said this is not a local issue and we can't have local offices picked off this is a national issue which needs a national response.
The national strategy also closes over 300 delivery offices as well.
We had a report on the wasall trial , the modelling and arrival times for one wave in hundreds of offices and we also had a report on d2d collation and bench merging
I think we will see information going to members from early January over Royal Mail's strategy.

Re: Poll - longer deliveries or less Full Timers.
Would a shorter working week help mitigate the redundancies as well as help the wage progression of the partime staff ie a higher wage with less differential full time 33 hours partime 27 hours so the pro rata and holiday entitlement would be near full time and keep ahead of the so called living wage?

Re: Poll - longer deliveries or less Full Timers.
i hope you all realised in this big meeting that if the cwu do not stop 6 + hour deliveries/2 hour later start times that there will be NO cwu at all! i have not spoken to one person that has said they would not leave the cwu if this happens! And the ones that stay on royal mail & try this way of working will be very unhealthy very fast so their subs will go aswell.dingo wrote:Just on the train back from Birmingham after a good meeting.

Do the cwu actually think we are getting done ontime each day?? We NEED help from these machines just to do these impossible jobs!
And while you were passing the tea & biscuits around amongst yourselves did anyone care to bring up the fact that nobody uses correct delivery methods which is breaking h&s & nobody from the cwu pushes the royal mail on this?
The cwu seems uninterested in the important matters & interested in rubbish nothing to do with our day to day working life.

How do you purpose the CWU (which basically means the workforce) stop it?halfull wrote:i hope you all realised in this big meeting that if the cwu do not stop 6 + hour deliveries/2 hour later start times that there will be NO cwu at all! i have not spoken to one person that has said they would not leave the cwu if this happens! How very true,we have got 40 year old's going off with knee ,hip and back pain, older workers are really struggling with the impossible workloads,I really hope that one day Royal mail will be made to pay for the damage it has done to us,like the NCB with the miners.halfull wrote:people in my do are suffering really bad physically with the current deliveries let alone bigger deliveries!

Get some strength to say NO!! Fight the royal mail on everything!A2B wrote:How do you purpose the CWU (which basically means the workforce) stop it?halfull wrote:i hope you all realised in this big meeting that if the cwu do not stop 6 + hour deliveries/2 hour later start times that there will be NO cwu at all! i have not spoken to one person that has said they would not leave the cwu if this happens! Too many weak people just roll over & get trampled on! The cwu needs to say this way of working will be physically impossible.

They can only get the strength to say no from the workforce, is there the unity to do so? personally i don't think so but happy to be proven wronghalfull wrote:A2B wrote:Get some strength to say NO!! Fight the royal mail on everything!halfull wrote:

How do you propose fighting the introduction of new technology?halfull wrote:

Can you point to any industry in the last 100 years that has successfully fought off the introduction of new technology?

An oft times repeated phrase but the truth is light years away. You support the CWU you don't control it. Decisions are taken and agreements made totally without your input, sad but true.A2B wrote:How do you purpose the CWU (which basically means the workforce) stop it?

Re: Poll - longer deliveries or less Full Timers.
It isn't a question of being a luddite against the introduction of new technology but the manner in which it is introduced to the detriment of the workforce. Rather than the CWU looking at how the changes can be introduced to implement RMs plan more how those changes can be introduced to the benefit of the workforce. Shorter working week, more holidays and the assurance that trolleys are used wherever possible to protect members health. To my mind there are too many apologists for the manner in which the union is run and too few question their actions.motherhubbard wrote:How do you propose fighting the introduction of new technology?

Some of us do that then end up isolated, put upon and every single fault highlighted so that your working day is made as hard as possible but every so slightly within the rules/agreements. This constant pressure leads to so many cracking and just wanting to get in and out of the office as quick as possible.halfull wrote:Get some strength to say NO!! Fight the royal mail on everything!

I am glad people here are starting to appreciate the implications of these proposals. Luddite or not it will destroy the jobs and health of most postmen. No clear research has been done as far as I can see into the effects on musculoskeletal health by the CWU of the day we already have, let alone this insanity.
It's the perfect storm, longer walks, later starts and everyone should be extremely worried by this and especially the lack of communication from the CWU.
It's quite literally 'the letter that broke the postie's back'.

Re: Poll - longer deliveries or less Full Timers.
I think there was a study set up looking at the long term effects on the new ways of working but royal mail will just pick out the good bits just like the employee opinion survey, And air brush the rest under the carpet just like they do with everything else they don't like so it all sounds fine but it never is.bustedflush wrote:I am glad people here are starting to appreciate the implications of these proposals.
