I agree. These spiteful little 'work-to-rulers' do themselves NO favours. I go in half-hour early, as I'm part time and still the full-timer/driver will be waiting for me to bundle up and get on out. I never doorstep/run/jog/leave gates open. I simply walk briskly. I've twice worked to my time in months. Now before the Red Robbos kick-off at me, I took this job as it fitted in with my personal life. I could, working the hours, finish in time to pick my kids up from school. The earlier I get out, the earlier I go home. I'd say half the blokes in the office think the same way. I want my break at home after work, not sitting in the canteen drinking overpriced crappy coffee for 20 minutes.
If I'm put on with a really slow prat (there are 4 or 5 in the office) I take my car out, do my loops (not from the car before you scream!) and go straight home, dropping my PDA and returns off with the van driver. The slow ones actually are aware many posties either refuse to work with them as a pair, or insist they take their own van out. To be fair, they tell the newbs to take their car out if they want. We have had one person reported delivering after 5PM. and on occasions between 7 and 8 PM. Who wants to be paired with a dosser like that?
What don't you understand! If you finish early RM should give you more work so that you work to your time!! So the hard/faster you work the bigger your duty should get! The people doing the job properly are saving jobs for the future. Remember you will one day be the guy over 50 who perhaps can't go as fast as he used to. For god sake think before you continue theses actions. If RM wanted to take your break off you and force you to use your own fuel you would be soon saying how union has done you over blah blah blah
I am over 50 already... I have found a decent compromise to please everybody. The art of it seems to be to get back about 30-45 minutes early, because with travelling time etc. if you were sent out again you'd 'go over' and claim overtime or have the right to refuse on the grounds you don't want to go over. Just don't get back TOO early!

Have you stopped to wonder why a highly unionised industry gets a pay offer that those in non-unionised private sector jobs would "snap" at? It's not long term posties that need some perspective,we're doing quite well with the perspective we have and have little intention of letting the worst aspects of private industry ruin our working lives.

There's nothing to wonder at. The union power comes (came from) firstly a monopoly that hasn't yet been broken down fully and secondly a business that has been on numerous occasions subsidized by the taxpayer whilst in public ownership. Now that has all changed - why do you think the CWU is so keen to nail down at least 3 years' pay and guarantees at the moment? A lot will change in the next 3 years - either we'll work for a profitable dividend-paying private company or there will be industrial unrest within Royal Mail which will effectively hand the business over to other contractors and companies. Heads they win tails we lose. It's only the fact that RM has the infrastructure and resources to delivery to nearly every UK address 6 days a week that differentiates between us and the rest. I believe eventually RM will have a merger with one of the big companies like TNT or DHL etc. that could potentially raise the capital for a hostile takeover. That's when the sh!t'll hit the fan (and Moira and co. will have a nice little payday).
