Re: DINGO !
I'll give you one thing that is obviously different and I did not have to hear this: it is on this same thread.
PL - Plymouth has more part-timers than full timers whilst
W - West London has 91.66% full timers
BTW, I was working within RM and enjoying a break in front of the TV when I heard the convo... I like to interact and be aware; unlike some.
* You can add folks getting Difficult Recruitment Allowance in a Region that is overpopulated and where at least one of the large offices has FT posties surplus to requirement.
Have you got anything to add to the myth about London?

Re: DINGO !
The reasons why London has less part timers then other areas in the UK is not just down to the CWU. It was also about the fact that part timers. In times of the encomony being good not staying in Royal Mail.
You mention West London and even now Royal Mail has to compete with the various businesses around Heathrow and the rentention is still an issue.
Equally all the BT revisons have been done in West London but it makes no financial sense for Royal Mail to give a Reduancy to a full timer which takes an average of 3 years to repay in order to recruit a part timer. There are very few people who want to buy down their hours.
It's not about a model week being high it is about what you agree as an attendance pattern , indoor performance ans delivery span.
Personally it does not bother me that you and other posters are quick to blame London postmen and women for all the ills of Royal Mail , we have shown that we stand together and have stopped Royal Mail from introducing the things like 100 BSI and things which were not in the agreement but on their agenda.
London had £13.68 for inner and £16.30 for outer per week paid from the DRAS dispute. In 2003 this was put into our London Weighting and became pensionable. Why we'll when the rest of UK vote no in a strike action ballot under the move from 2 deliveries to 1 . London voted yes over London Weighting which led to an unoffical dispute supported by lots of offices outside London' and as a result we got a deal for everyone which. Included for the first time the end of the 6 day week , £26.28 payment.

Re: DINGO !
Any news as yet regarding a decision by the PEC on a deal/strikes? See if they agree to another extension though,on their heads be it. That will be it for a lot of folk. Having been in processing, dely and now Distribution in recent years if there is no deal even a slight doubt about delivery then we HAVE to STRIKE. Delivery is an utter shambles, the workload, the pressure the guys there are under is totally unacceptable.

Re: DINGO !
damm right, we MUST strike as delivery is not a problem that can be sorted over a weekend of poxy talks by people who never enter a delivery office & have no clue what we are going through on a daily basis. No more extensions,strike.pudz1224 wrote:Any news as yet regarding a decision by the PEC on a deal/strikes? See if they agree to another extension though,on their heads be it. That was 10 years ago and the end of the 6 day week hasn't exactly helped because the delivery span has gone through the roof. As for recruitment that is no longer a widespread issue obviously and it would appear that there are postmen surplus to requirement in London so lapsing shouldn't be a problem or are they just working a 3 day week.

Re: DINGO !
I would not claim to know much about the workings of the CWU or the general London issue but like I said there is no smoke without fire, IMHO.
The replies at least keep people more informed. I work so far away from London in a delivery office where we do not even have a Rep at the moment. I can categorically say that London is not an issue as most do not even know much about the next town or county or what the CWU is doing nationwide.
I only quoted from the Freedom of Information document and it is quite shocking that a whole town has more part-timers than full timers and that sort of disparity clearly has an effect on many other issues.
I also find it interesting the way dingo quickly become defensive when the London issue crops up... and this goes way back (http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... 42&t=35014" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)...
The only thing that I find disturbing is that as a group and with the help of their senior CWU Rep and part of the hierarchy, London is proud to say that they get the best out of the agreement for their members. Just how does that work when we are all supposed to be in it together and how can the rest do the same. Is there a possibility that if one region is getting what they think they deserve, then another region might not be doing so well.
Back to the FT/PT ratio: no one said it is the fault of the CWU. But whilst quoting the so-called average of 75/25, it is failing to highlight that there is a huge disparity from region to region or town to town. This sort of anomaly will continue to allow RM to claim 75/25 whilst virtually turning some places into wholly part-time workforce. Statistic, damn statistics!

Re: DINGO !
The actual ratio is 69/31 and the new proposal is "proportionally more FT than PT" which is less descriptive than the 75/25 which was never going to be under review by the CWU which was pointed out but as per usual the union doesn't pay attention to the detail. Under BT2010 by the unions admission there was "winners and losers" no need to guess where the winners are. History shows that London has fared considerably better than the rest of us because the ratio of FT is higher, union membership is higher, access to HQ is easier thereby creating the opportunity to be heard.chrisj wrote:I would not claim to know much about the workings of the CWU or the general London issue but like I said there is no smoke without fire, IMHO.
