yes somewhere in the middle is different from as close to the middle as possible, also that only applies to the statutory breaks which are if you are working a shift of 6 hours or longer you are entitled to a break of 20 minutes, if you work less than 6 hours you are not entitled to a statutory break,
also taking a break an hour into your shift complies with the legislation, in fact half an hour in would to, as its not tagged onto the start or end

i agree but thats not whats being argued by k999is saying, is stating that in the way forward agreement it states that if you dont take half your break before you leave the office then you lose it, which is not the case i am saying the break can be scheduled all before, all whilst on delivery or split,
I go back to my original question does this result in bullying by managers and colleagues alike ?
Imagine a 5 hour part timer on a van share duty walked in at 9 am and then sat down for 30 minutes.
Or at 11am he/she sat in the van for 30 minutes and then asked to be driven back to the D.O at 13.50 pm.
In most instances Wednesday to Friday there would be mail still to deliver and the full timer and D.O.M would go ballistic.
Who would the union rep support ?

no it does not result in bullying, what reason would FT member of staff have to complain?
the PT staff member could not just walk in to the office and then sit down he would need to do a bit of work before he took his break, if he needed to be driven back to the office at his finish time then so be it, the ft member of staff has no reason to complain its part of his job to get him back to the office for his finish time if he is not staying on for ot
Let's be honest the 'paid' breaks we are entitled to is the bollox.
Peeps on 4hr and 5hr days get 20 and 30 mins respectively.
That is more than enough the f**k a revision over and get extra hr's in the office...if used properly.
We've got RM by the bollox with this.

Why should you want to take the break in the van? By the time you are about to leave the yard, you would have done at least 3 hours work (if FT), and you deserve a break before proceeding.
If they want you to take all the 40 minutes break at the office then you have the right to complain.
surely having a break in the van should not be allowed, if they insist surely rm need to provide a place where you can go to the toilet and wash your hands properly and sit in a proper rest room. the vans are filthy and i will not sit in them and eat, at our office we have 20 min break b4 we go out and 20 min at end, dom knows that i take no break in the van so he will pay ot if late, can anyone tell us the union view on this? because my dom agrees having break in van is not practical or hygienic i just take water on walk and have a energy bar or sme nuts halfway round on the pavement before loading trolley
