exactly, our Union rep guy would of run rings around them, with some of the information you've given us. not fair on you.

I'm not overly keen on the keeping specials on your person/with you at all times. what if some nutters knows this and attacks you with the intention of stealing several grands worth of jewellery or whatever.

High value ones at our place stay in the vans in a lockable container - and if they are on HCT or a walking only duty then they don't take them out.

I hadn't got round to joining the union but tried to do it during this, they weren't interested.
Is that right? I don't think it's up to the rep to do background checks or refuse membership of the union.

You can join online, too. Go on the CWU website.

We are a campaigning union and work hard to get our voice - YOUR voice - heard on a variety of subjects such as fair pay, pensions, just terms and conditions, health and safety, equal opportunities and politics. We are affiliated to the TUC and UNI.

There's a link that says 'join us'.

During a strike, you can join on the picket line. You need to get your appeal in, immediately. You may only have a few days time limit.

I think you can use the reasons for appeal - procedure not followed and decision unfair. With representation you might also have new evidence to introduce.

Good luck

I don't think they would refuse him the right to join the union but refuse to represent him in a conduct case.
I think it varies from area to area but I think some require you to have been a member for a few months to stop people only joining to get themselves out of s**t.
It may also be down to the individual reps concerned and they could, if they wanted, provide support and advice in a non-rep sort of way.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Its Rule 3.2.4

4. The acceptance of an application for membership by the NEC shall confer upon
each member all the rights and privileges of the Union. However, no member
shall be entitled to retrospective benefits or services.

But it is sometimes, happily, overlooked at local level.
