The times on Saturday stated that to ensure premiums will be paid out year on year then "restructuring" will be taking place on a yearly basis. Restructuring will come in the form of losing 3,000 jobs year on year!
Now as Parcelforce is making a profit it will most proberly be hived off at the earliest opportunity to increase year profits.
If Parcelforce members like yourselves continue to spout defeatist crap :no no and don't back the strike then don't expect the rest of us to stand when they come for you! :wave
As normal for some people a moral backbone comes in short supply when asking people to take a day of action to defend THEIR working conditions and pay! You could not make it up! :d'oh!
Conservatives are not necessarily stupid, but most stupid people are conservatives.

I think your getting a bit heated here as remember they having nothing to do with the payrise and they are making most of the profits for Royal Mail. I am sure they have there own issues as they do get paid less than the letter side. Also as for the strikes they will lose there big customers which will leave them out of pocket as jobs will be lost. For strikes I don't agree with them but if they say let's go on strike Xmas time for a week or too I would willingly strike as this would get the attention of Royal Mail, but will not look good for the postie in the public eye. Also can all posties afford to go on strike as Xmas is coming up.

K797aaa just had a look at the strike 1971 and it says on the bbc that they striked for 7 weeks and came back to work with a smaller offer than at first. Interesting read. Don't know how to quote this as jugs managed the quoting on this site..

In answer to your question thinking I'll be immune and I say you don't know maybe I will maybe I won't. But back in the days when I done delivery I used to have breakfast with the British gas boys and they were on a good crack after privatisation and some also got terms that were very beneficial to them.

The whole issue about taking strike action stems from EMPLOYERS reducing workers pay and conditions period!
The CWU negotiated a 3 year deal in which 23 mail centres closed! We all suffered from workload increases and budgetary constraints but excepted it because we are not "Luddites", change to market conditions have to happen but it does not mean a race to the bottom. What should happen is that those postal workers working in the private sector should be aspiring to our pay and conditions and not the other way round. It's the 21st century and workers should not be put at the mercy of market ups and downs especially when the same markets are bankrolled by the workers!
Those who choose not to stand with the union are by their non participating giving their consent to having their pay and working conditions reduced. Do not say that the majority of them cannot afford a days strike when in the future they would not be able to meet their present financial commitments due to their PAY being reduced to the market level!
Those who choose not to stand with the union benefit from sick pay, increased annual leave, h/s regs, industry leading pay rates and WTD. In my eyes they are free loaders every single one of them stupidly believing that the employers gave them all these benefits!

I don't understand Parcelforce people who think they are going to be OK after the sell off. Some are already owner/drivers and I'm pretty sure RM are going to want to extend that element of the workforce asap. Then we come to logistics another element ripe for the picking - no one is going to be safe, there are so many ways to deploy the workforce whilst paying lip service to any 3 year terms and conditions legally binding agreement. Take this Simulator exercise doing the rounds at the moment and the deal isn't yet done.

This is from an ex-ParcelForce Owner/Driver.
You work 60 plus hours - six days a week
Provide cover for your holiday and sickness at your own expense
Provide a Red van less than three years old ready to be liveried up
And when you reach the required productivity levels you may reach turnover of £45 -50K.

Take the van hire cost, insurance, bump and tyre scuff contingency,Cover hire, fuel cost, phones and admin overhead etc etc and I reckon you may get gross earnings of £25- £30K from a business that is up for sale so you have no security whatsoever, all for a 60+ hrs,6 day a week job..
You would have to be nuts,it's not worth the grief.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Yes I do agree fishtank this is not for all but I know some earning more than this and maybe there overheads are lower. The ones I speak to don't want to change back to working for parcelforce and want to remain owner drivers. You would have to work harder or should I Say more productive but this is not a crime!
