Gross Misconduct - advice ladies n gents

been suspended for the last three weeks for alleged violent conduct against another employee.local rep is pushing for me to resign,says it will stop me getting a bad record from royal mail.should he be saying that for a start.just to clarify i was attacked buy this other guy,i just defended myself.apparentley he has previous for this type of thing with his previous job!but he is one of the office blue eyed boys! where do i stand? should i seek independant legal advice?

I agree don't resign.
Fight tooth and nail all the way.
Study every little detail and take it apart.
Make them work if they want to dismiss you, don't make it easy for them.
Believe me it works.

looks like i already have them! they failed to tell me that before my interview with the dom i should have had access to the witness statements and also been able to recall them back to give further statements! 
neither the dom or my so called rep told me this.how convienient me thinks! 
been told this by a senior rep and also a employment solicitor! 
so it looks like they dont have a leg to stand on!
