Anyway ive maybe exhausted my limited knowledge rant on this thread . A few things ive said may be invalid but a few things are true, a shake up in MC's would benefit even the postys, (and i do know most postys work hard from what im told off the few lads i know well). And one thing i can never ever ever get my head around is the general feeling of total hatred to RM from its staff! Surely we all owe it something at least? If i had the sort of hatred some people have i couldnt work there!

Hatred for RM,this is a tough one, from what i'm gathering you've never worked in a DO,but then again i've never worked in a MC,so i don't know how things are in them places.
There is a mass hatred for management, with that i mean DO and line managers, would that be the same thing?
Some of the stuff we have to put up with in our daily working lives makes us that way, maybe you've never had this.
As for the company as a whole,i like my job very much and i understand that there has to be changes but there's a limit on what i can do.
My office works because we bend the rules with managements authority, come in early, use our own cars, over weight bags, this has been going on for many many years.
We have given more to RM and saved them more money than they could imagine this way,and yet they want more.
We have now stopped the above in our office and we fail our targets regularly,we need more jobs in our place now as do others doing the same thing as us.
Before the competition, one year we made £600M the next year we lost £400M then we turned it around now it's gone pear shaped again and the excuse now is the competition.
Read this bit again Before the competition, one year we made £600M the next year we lost £400M
We have a board of directors who are some of the highest payed people in the public sector earning MILLIONS in wages and they are telling us we are overpayed.
We have probably the worst 'Management (floor level) attitude to floor workers' in probably the whole of the UK.

Time changes things and yes the job has got harder over the years and fair enough, you get payed 8hrs so do 8hrs.
The days of the flyers are now long gone, again fair enough.

There's not a hatred for RM or the job but the people running it and the lacky c***s manageing it,treating us like something on the bottom of their shoe so all the box's get ticked.

Like i said before come and work on the proper front line for a while, and let's see where you and all the other disbelievers go from there.
And don't give me none of that 'well if you don't like it......' malarkey,i and many others do like it,just don't want no freeloaders takin the piss out of us because we like it.

PS: Good luck to the orange men, they're gonna f***ing need it!

cheers some good points you have contributed in this thread and very well put arguments you are a gentleman who obviously knows the score, thats not to say you are 100% right because theres still a touch of delusion there in thinking we are invincible as a business and irreplaceable in a role singularly, i got mates who would have your job for a wage cut TOMORROW!!!

imho processing staff ARE OVERPAID for an unskilled job. l tommo aint gonna like me saying that cos he thinks he is irreplaceable in his role, NO CHANCE, there would be poeple (outside of RM) willing to do any job in a MC for LESS MONEY, i guarantee it, ITS NOT HARD WORK WHAT WE DO, ive had a few hard jobs before RM at what then would of been way below minimum wage, so getting a cushy number in a MC for sorting a bit of mail, getting good breaks, drinking tea and having a snack on the job, lengthy unquestioned toilet breaks at will virtually, mp3 players and fones on the go, etc etc etc QUITE A CUSHY NUMBER FOR 300 QUID A WEEK AFTER TAX MON - FRI!!! Some people have had it too good for too long and dont know hard work!

Oh and before anyone starts with the whole unskilled thing and brings up ex-phg jobs that they consider skilled, think again... ive done virtually every job when i was a PHG....bookroom, revenue protection, busuness reply, Q.A. , special delivery locker, even worked in the reg locker for D.O. forgot about that!!!! SO YES I HAVE WORKED IN THE D.O!!!! And all of them i thought were a breeze for anyone to do for 300 quid a week in their pocket!!!!!

Oh and i aint got a clue what someone means by me 'scaremongering', i aint a union rep , i aint a manager, i just look at this as an outsider would and say what i see!

MADSORTER. I THINK YOU NEED EDUCATING IN THE WAYS AND MEANS OF THE RM BUSINESS PLAN. LEIGHTON WANTS TO DO THE SAME TO RM AS HE DID TO ASDA. HE BASED HIS BUSINESS PLANS THERE ON PART TIME WORKERS. BELIEVE ME MATE, HE WANTS TO DO THAT HERE. SO STOP KNOCKING :no no THE MONEY WE EARN FOR WHAT WE DO, COS IN 2,3 MAYBE 4 YEARS TIME YOU COULD BE EARNING HALF AS A PART TIMER. IF THERE'S A NO VOTE IN THE BALLOT, THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS GO OUT OF THE WINDOW. ALL PLANS WILL BE RAILROADED IN. YOUR MANAGER WILL COME TO YOU AND SAY, 'HELLO MADSORTER, FROM MONDAY YOU'RE A PART TIMER', AND THERE'LL BE NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT.

VOTE YES. LETS KEEP THIS BUSINESS FULL TIME :Applause :Applause

Oh forgot to add, thats one of the dumbest ways of working i can imagine and cant see how anyone with good sense could see it was doing anything but bad things for the d.o.!!!! Granted i may not FULLY understand the reasons for thes corner cutting ways, but im sure you agree its absolutely futile to work like that and am so glad to hear it has stopped!!!

Mad belive me 'Flexibility' one of RM favourite words and one that will be used very much if there's a no vote.

MC: enough people to cover the work there this week,DO: short of a few bods around the post code area.
Ok we'll send a few of the MC guys to local DO's there's walks that need to be covered.

Its not fantasy it's what they want.!!

MAD YOU DIDNT REPLY TO MY QUESTION AS TO WHY YOU DIDNT GO TO YOUR SORRY WHATEVER YOUR VERSION OF A DOM IS WITH SUGGESTIONS FOR CUT BACKS AND SAVINGS,IF IT WORKS YOU GET A SMALL BONUS AND A PAT ON THE BACK AND MAYBE SAVE SOME FULL TIME JOBS IN THE LONG RUN,MC JOBS ARE GOING TO GET HIT AND HARD NOT JUST BY DSA BUT BIG SHINY NEW TOYS AS WELL AND ITS UP TO PEOPLE LIKE YOU TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY ARE RUN BY FULL TIME AND NOT PART TIMERS
OH AND I DID AGREE WITH SOME OF WHAT YOU SAID, BUT I DIDNT U TURN, IT WAS JUST A QUESTION WHICH YOU DIDNT ANSWER EITHER,ONE POINT YOU KEEP ON ABOUT IS PEOPLE TAKING THE JOB FOR LESS MONEY,AND YOU COULD BE RIGHT BUT ARE THEY THE KIND OF PEOPLE WHO WOULD STICK IT OUT, ONE OF OUR BIGGEST PROBLEMS IN DELIVERY IS NOT GETTING PEOPLE, BUT GETTING PEOPLE TO STAY AND IF FRED STARTS ON 200 QUID AND SAM THE OLD TIMER IS GETTING £350 FOR THE SAME JOB HOW HAPPY IS HE GOING TO BE AND IS HE GOING TO STAY
ANOTHER POINT IS THE UNSKILLED JOB,AS SOMEONE WHO WAS BOUNCED ARROUND THE OFFICE LEARNING DIFFERENT JOBS OVER THE YEARS I FIND MYSELF IN CONSTANT DEMAND FROM MANAGERS BECAUSE OF THE WIDE RANGE OF KNOWLEDGE THAT I HAVE COMPARED WITH SOMEONE WHO HAS STARTED RECENTLY AND WHO CAN AND WILL ONLY DO THE ONE THING,COULD THAT NOT BE COUNTED AS A SKILL LEVEL,AFTER ALL THE REAL DEFINITION OF SKILL IS THE ABILITY TO DO SOMETHING THAT OTHERS CANNOT DO,MYSELF I WISH I COULD GET A KEYBOARD TO TYPE WHAT I THINK IM PUTTING INTO IT RATHER THAN THE BADLY SPELT AND PUNCTUATED DRIVEL THAT ACTUALLY APPEARS ON SCREEN
APART FROM THAT KEEP UP THE POSTS I LIKE TO KEEP THINGS LIVELY IF POSIBLE RATHER THAN EVERYONE MOANING ON ABOUT THE SAME THING

Royal Mail have already started to brief reps about picket line conduct snd labelling people as strike breakers.

Maybe you could use the alternative label for them

Sausage
Chips
And
Beans

S
C
A
B

Takes managers a while to pick that one up
