Hi there,
i took over as Rep in Nov 2011, its been an eye opener to say the least. I am this week doing my Union Skill 1 course, i've found it very helpful but not half as helpful as being in a room with 10 other CWU reps for 7 hours a day, its really is a learning curve and listening to them 10 people is as good an education than i could hope for.

Doing the Postal Agreements & Procedures course at the moment and that is very worth while. Get yourself on that as soon as possible.So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet

yeah really enjoying, i will note that course your on, down and try for it, got Equality & Diversity in March, and i'd like to do Grievence & Conduct course soon too, happy to do as many as i can actually. But as i said just being with other Reps is so helpful.

I once went on a course for sarcasm but I wasn't very good at it.

I'm considering becoming our office union rep because at the moment we don't have one. He resigned his post when I challenged him to speak to our manager about how the park and loop staff were getting shafted big time. He spent more time in the managers pocket than on delivery! What I want to know is - do you actually get some training to do the job properly? I've got the backing of half the office (the park and loopers) but I want to do a good job for the office in general. I've been a postie 17 years now and there's things that happen in my office that I'm certain wouldn't be tolerated anywhere else but as our former union rep was getting well and truly tucked up...he didn't care. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Yes there is a postal agreements and procedures course which will give you the initial training, I would also recommend doing Union Skills 1,2 and 3.
There is a mandatory equality and diversity course to do if you become the rep.
The next Postal agreements and procedures course is late October at Alvescot Lodge in Oxfordshire which is the CWU's Education and Training Centre.
